The present disclosure provides antimicrobial coating compositions that are used to form residual antimicrobial coatings on medical implements and medical devices including the components of medical equipment such as CPAP/BiPAP machines. Antimicrobial coating compositions comprise at least one of an organosilane (RO)Si&#x2014;R&#x2014;Z, an organic amine RRRN, a titanium (IV) species, a 1,2-diol, an &#x3b1;-hydroxy acid, a &#x3b2;-hydroxy acid, and an organosilane grafted parylene polymer, wherein Ris H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl, Ris a bivalent linker, Z is a nucleophile, leaving group, or quaternary nitrogen substituent, and R, R, and Rare independently H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl or cyclic.

Antimicrobial coatings for medical implements and medical devices

A method of quantifying an antimicrobial coatings using a handheld XRF analyzer is disclosed. The method provides an estimate of the expected level of antimicrobial efficacy for a thin film comprising silicon and/or titanium by obtaining aSi orTi peak intensity using XRF spectroscopy and converting the obtainedSi orTi peak intensity to the expected level of efficacy using a calibration curve. A properly calibrated handheld XRF analyzer allows a user to assess the viability of antimicrobial coatings in the field, such as in a hospital where various fomites may be coated with silane and/or titanium compositions.

Aqueous antimicrobial coating compositions are disclosed comprising at least one organosilane homopolymer, present as a distribution of polymer chain lengths, and optionally at least one amine. A method of preparing an antimicrobial coating comprises coating a surface with the aqueous antimicrobial coating composition and allowing the composition to dry into a film that exhibits residual antimicrobial efficacy against microorganisms even after mechanical abrasion of the coating. A wet wipe is disclosed that provides both contact sanitization of a surface and application of a residual antimicrobial coating on the surface through the same wiping. The wet wipe comprises a substrate such as an absorbent nonwoven fabric and a liquid composition impregnated therein, the liquid composition comprising an organosilane such as the antimicrobial dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl] ammonium chloride, a non-silane quaternary disinfectant, an organic amine, and a solvent. Wet wipes comprising antimicrobial coating compositions

A method for controlling infections in a facility such as a hospital or foodservice establishment is provided. The method comprises tagging assets, monitoring asset location and pathogen contamination for each asset over time, analyzing data sets to identify which assets are the critical control points for pathogen transfer, and coating a residual self-sanitizing coating composition on each asset identified as a critical control point. The infection control method shuts down pathogen transfer routes by mitigating or eliminating pathogen growth on the critical control points.

An apparatus is provided for controlling hospital acquired infections by targeting critical control points for pathogen transfer. An infection control apparatus comprises an asset tagging unit; a spraying unit; a power supply unit; optionally a DNA/RNA sequencing unit; and a computing unit comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with program instructions for controlling the asset tagging unit and the spraying unit to perform a method of infection control in the facility. In general, the apparatus is used to identify which assets are critical control points for pathogen transfer and to treat those assets with a residual self-sanitizing coating.

A method of preparing an antimicrobial coating comprises coating a surface with an aqueous mixture of 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl dimethyloctadecyl ammonium chloride, 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane, and triethanolamine and then coating the surface with an aqueous titanyl sol-gel solution comprising an aqueous mixture of peroxotitanium acid and peroxo-modified anatase sol overtop of the silane to form the antimicrobial coating. The invention relates to an antimicrobial coating composition formed by admixing choline bitartrate or choline chloride, an aminopropyltrialkoxysilane and water. This coating composition is preferably sprayed onto a surface and allowed to dry. Preferably the surface is a stainless steel surface. The coating reduces the amount ofon the surface of the substrate.
