The present invention is directed to a heat-shrinkable, thermoplastic film or bag which contains at least one homogeneous ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer having a density of at least 0.90 g/cc. Oriented films made in accordance with the present invention exhibit improved optics and improved impact resistance. A homogeneous ethylene alpha-olefin may be present in a monolayer film either alone or in a blend or may be included in one or more layers of a multilayer film in accordance with the present invention.

Heat shrinkable films containing single site catalyzed copolymers

The present invention is directed to a heat-shrinkable, thermoplastic film or bag which contains at least one homogeneous ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer with at least some limited long chain branching. Oriented films made in accordance with the present invention exhibit improved processability as well as improved physical properties such as excellent optics and impact resistance. A homogeneous ethylene alpha-olefin with long chain branching may be present in a monolayer film either alone or in a blend or may be included in one or more layers of a multilayer film in accordance with the present invention.

Heat shrinkable films containing single site catalyzed copolymers having long chain branching

A multilayer film, which is particularly suited to packaging of cheese on a Hayssen&#xae; RT packaging machine, has a first layer comprising cyclic olefin copolymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 125&#xb0; C., and a second layer comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of cyclic olefin copolymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 125&#xb0; C., polyamide, polyester, and polystyrene. The first and second layers are on opposite sides of a tensile axis of symmetry of the film. The film exhibits from 0 to 45 degrees of transverse edge curl, a yield point of at least 1200 psi at a temperature of 85&#xb0; C., and an elongation at break of from 0 to 300 percent at 85&#xb0; C. In addition, a packaging process comprises supplying the film and placing a plurality of product units on the flat film at desired intervals, forwarding the flat film having product units thereon, while forming a tubing from the flat film so that product is inside the tubing, followed by sealing the film along its length and transversely (upstream and downstream of the product), so that the product is a discrete packaged product is formed.

High modulus, temperature-resistant film for form fill and seal packaging

A multiple layer film useful in moisture barrier packaging applications has at least one layer comprising a blend of propylene polymer or copolymer, and a hydrocarbon resin; and two additional layers comprising a propylene polymer or copolymer, ethylene alpha olefin copolymer, ionomer, polybutene, or blends thereof. A core layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer or other oxygen barrier material, or high density polyethylene, can be included in some embodiments. A preferred embodiment of the multi-layer film exhibits excellent moisture barrier and optical properties, and shrink properties as well if the film has been oriented. High oxygen barrier is also a feature in embodiments including EVOH or other oxygen barrier materials.

Moisture barrier film

A heat-shrinkable film containing a homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer has a high impact strength and a high free shrink. The film can be a monolayer film or multilayer film, with the homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer present alone or in a blend, and in one or more film layers. The film is especially suited for use in heat-shrinkable bags, which can be used for the packaging of various products, especially meat.

High impact strength film containing single site catalyzed copolymer

A film includes a core layer including a polymer such as nylon 6, nylon 66, nylon 6,66, and/or polyamide elastomer; first and second intermediate layers including polymeric adhesive; a first outer layer including ethylene/alpha olefin copolymer having a density of less than 0.940 grams/cubic centimeter; and a second outer layer including heat sealable polymer such as (1) ethylene/alpha olefin copolymer having a density less than 0.921 grams/cubic centimeter, (2) ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, (3) ethylene/alkyl (meth)acrylate copolymer, (4) ethylene/(meth)acrylic acid copolymer, and/or (5) ionomer. The film has good resistance to tear, and good resistance to impact, making it useful for packaging coins and other objects. A bag made from the film, and an article such as a sealed bag filled with coins or other objects, are also disclosed.

Film with impact and puncture resistance

A film includes at least one layer comprising a blend of an ethylene polymer having a density of at least 0.925 grams per cubic centimeter, and an ethylene copolymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene/ester copolymer, and ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer. The film is preferably substantially free from linear low density polyethylene. The film can be a monolayer or multilayer film, and can comprises a core layer comprising an ethylene polymer having a density of at least 0.925 grams per cubic centimeter; and one or more outer layers with the above described blend. At least one intermediate layer comprising an ethylene copolymer having a density of less than 0.925 grams per cubic centimeter can also be included. The film preferably has a thickness of less than 0.60 mils; a shrink force of less than 0.35 pounds in the longitudinal direction, and less than 0.30 pounds in the transverse direction; and a modulus of at least 60,000 psi in the longitudinal direction, and at least 75,000 psi in the transverse direction. The film offers beneficial properties for packaging applications.

High modulus film

A polymeric film is provided which comprises a core layer of polyamide and two outer layers of ethylene propylene copolymer, polypropylene, and blends thereof. Coextruded embodiments include intermediate adhesive layers. A preferred embodiment of the multilayer film exhibits a combination of good abuse resistance and oxygen barrier properties, as well as excellent optical properties and shrink properties. The differential in CO,transmission and O,transmission rates makes these films especially useful in cheese packaging applications.

Breathable abuse resistant film for packaging cheese

A film includes at least one layer comprising a blend of an ethylene polymer having a density of at least 0.925 grams per cubic centimeter, and an ethylene copolymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene/ester copolymer, and ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer. The film is preferably substantially free from linear low density polyethylene. The film can be a monolayer or multilayer film, and can comprises a core layer comprising an ethylene polymer having a density of at least 0.925 grams per cubic centimeter; and one or more outer layers with the above described blend. At least one intermediate layer comprising an ethylene copolymer having a density of less than 0.925 grams per cubic centimeter can also be included. The film preferably has a thickness of less than 0.60 mils; a shrink force of less than 0.35 pounds in the longitudinal direction, and less than 0.30 pounds in the transverse direction; and a tensile modulus of at least 60,000 psi in the longitudinal direction, and at least 75,000 psi in the transverse direction. The film offers beneficial properties for packaging applications.

The present invention relates to a film material suitable for using in packaging oxygen sensitive products which emit carbon dioxide gas, such as high gassing cheeses. The multilayer film includes at least one layer containing a nylon copolymer, preferably a nylon terpolymer, having at least one aromatic comonomer comprising from about 10% to about 75% by weight of the copolymer. The resultant film material is characterized by a relatively high CO.sub.2 :O.sub.2 transmission ratio; and a CO.sub.2 transmission rate of at least 400 cc/m.sup.2 -day-atmosphere.
