The present disclosure is generally related to power management in a circuit on a circuit board of a processor. The circuit includes a first power connector coupled to a first power input rail. The circuit includes a second power connector and a second power input rail. The circuit includes a control module. The control module is configured to determine a power specification of the circuit board. The control module is configured to detect a power cable connected to the first control connector. The control module is configured to sense a voltage at the second power connector. The control module is configured to couple the second power input rail with the first power connector or the second power connector in response to the determined power specification of the circuit board and the sensed voltage at the second power connector.

Power management in a circuit

A power supply operates in a run mode of operation and in a stand-by, burst mode of operation. When, for example, a user initiates a power-on request command, an on/off control signal is applied to an input terminal of a microprocessor. The microprocessor monitors an end time of a dead time interval of a burst mode cycle and generates a synchronized control signal for turning on a switch. The switch turns on immediately after the end of the dead time interval. The turned on switch couples a run mode load to a filter capacitor of the power supply.

Power supply with synchronized power on transition

In a tuned switch mode power supply, a supply inductance is coupled to a capacitance to form a tuned, resonant circuit. A transistor switch is coupled to the resonant circuit for generating current pulses in the inductance, coupled to a load circuit to provide an output of the power supply. Resonant voltage pulses are developed between a pair of main current conducting terminals of the transistor switch. A controller is coupled to the transistor switch for generating a switch control signal, during a run mode of operation. The transistor switch is turned on periodically, when the resonant voltage pulses reaches a zero voltage, to provide for zero voltage switching. The generation of the current pulses is disabled to provide for a burst mode operation, in a standby mode operation.

Zero voltage switching power supply with burst mode

A video apparatus includes a data acquisition mode (DAM) module. The DAM module contains memory to store a television program guide information. A standby supply voltage, derived from a first winding of a transformer, is coupled for energizing the DAM module, only during scheduled times, set up by the user. A supply voltage B+ generated from a second winding of the transformer energizes the deflection circuits, during the run mode. Voltage B+ is coupled in a negative feedback path to a voltage regulator. When the DAM module is energized, the deflection circuits are turned off. The energized DAM module causes a significant increase in the current consumption from the first winding of the transformer. A switch is coupled in the feedback path of voltage B+. The switch causes an attenuation of a portion of voltage B+ that is fed back to the regulator, in the DAM operation. Thereby, a tendency of the standby supply voltage to decrease, during the DAM operation, is compensated.
