The present disclosure relates to the fields of biotechnology, molecular biology and genetic engineering. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a genetically modified alga comprising a recombinant cytochrome c6 gene, methods of producing the same and applications thereof. The present disclosure also relates to a codon optimised nucleic acid sequence encoding a cytochrome c6 polypeptide, expression cassette, vectors and host cell thereof. In an embodiment, the present disclosure also relates to a method of increasing biomass and photosynthetic efficiency of algae.

Genetically modified alga, sequences and methods thereof

The present disclosure provides genetically modified. DAD1 gene is overexpressed in wild typeto obtain the genetically modified. The genetically modifiedis characterized by increased biomass, increased carrying capacity, reduced clumping, and increased stress tolerance to ultraviolet light and high light intensity, as compared to the wild type. The genetically modifiedcan be used for the production of industrially important products.

Genetically modified microalgae

The present disclosure relates to propiconazole resistant mutants ofspecies having Accession No. CCAP 211/134. The propiconazole resistant mutants ofspecies has increased tolerance to propiconazole and has increased tolerance to abiotic stress. The present disclosure further provides a method for preparing the propiconazole resistant mutants ofspecies. The propiconazole resistant mutants ofspecies can selectively grow in the presence of propiconazole, has increased tolerance to temperature stress, and hence can be used for large scale production of algal biomass.

The present disclosure relates to a method for increasing biomass synthesis capacity of microorganisms. The method in accordance with the present disclosure comprises overexpressing the genes involved in protein synthesis to increase the levels of protein synthesis and thereby, increase the biomass synthesis capacity of the microorganisms. The present disclosure also provides a modified microorganism having increased biomass synthesis capacity.

Method for increasing the biomass synthesis capacity of a photosynthetic microorganism

The present disclosure relates to a method for increasing lipid content in microorganisms. The method comprises decreasing the expression of molecules involved in the protein synthesis to decrease protein synthesis and thereby increase lipid synthesis in the microorganisms. The present disclosure also provides a modified microorganism having increased lipid content.

Method for increasing lipid content in microorganisms and modified microorganisms therefrom

The present disclosure provides a modified microorganism having an enhanced biomass synthesis capacity. The present disclosure also relates to a method for manufacturing a modified microorganism having an enhanced biomass synthesis capacity. The enhanced biomass synthesis capacity is due to the overexpression of the gene capable of inducing DNA repair mechanism. The gene responsible for the DNA repair is overexpressed when DNA damage is most and DNA repair mechanism is required.
