A system and method are provided for automatically estimating a repair cost for a vehicle. A method includes: receiving, at a server computing device over an electronic network, one or more images of a damaged vehicle from a client computing device; performing image processing operations on each of the one or more images to detect external damage to a first set of parts of the vehicle; inferring internal damage to a second set of parts of the vehicle based on the detected external damage; and, calculating an estimated repair cost for the vehicle based on the detected external damage and inferred internal damage based on accessing a parts database that includes repair and labor costs for each part in the first and second sets of parts.

A method of decoding a coherent RGB color barcode captured by a RGB camera includes: displaying a coherent RGB color barcode on the RGB display; capturing an image of the displayed barcode; performing a pilot block RGB color interference cancellation process to estimate a per pixel color interference; applying the per pixel color interference to the image of the displayed coherent RGB color barcode to extract each separate barcode of the coherent RGB color barcode; binarizing each of the three separate monochrome grey images of each barcode of the coherent RGB color barcode; and decoding each of the three separate binarized monochrome grey images to provide a decoded data for each barcode of the coherent RGB color barcode displayed on the RGB display. A method of decoding an incoherent RGB color barcode captured by a mobile device RGB camera is also described.

Per-channel color barcodes for displays

A new framework for extending monochrome barcodes to color which offers higher data rates is described. In one embodiment of the present invention, the framework encodes independent data in each of the cyan, magenta, and yellow print colorant channels commonly used in color printing and decodes the data from each of the complementary red, green, and blue channels in capture color channels. The framework effectively increases the capacity of monochrome barcodes by a factor of three. In another embodiment of the present invention, a physical model based approach mitigates the effect of cross-channel interference among the print-colorant channels and capture color channels. In another embodiment of the invention, a pilot block methodology is used to estimate the model parameters and enable cross-channel interference cancellation. In another embodiment of the invention, an expectation maximization (EM)-type methodology estimates the model parameters and enables cross-channel interference cancellation.

Color barcodes for mobile applications: a per channel framework

A color look-up table (CLUT) is compressed in a lossless manner. The CLUT includes nodes that convert values of a first color space to corresponding values of a second color space. The CLUT is received in a serialized node-by-node manner. For each of some of the nodes, the following is performed in the order in which the nodes are received in the serialized node-by-node manner. First, a difference value is determined that represents compression of a value of the node, in accordance with a hierarchical differential encoding approach or in accordance with a cellular interpolative prediction approach. Second, the difference value is stored in lieu of the value of the node being stored, to compress the value of the node in the lossless manner.

A method for maintaining color consistency in an environment of networked devices is disclosed. The method involves identifying a group of devices to which a job is intended to be rendered; obtaining color characteristics from devices in the identified group; modifying the job based on the obtained color characteristics; and rendering the job on one or more of the devices. Modifications are computed by a transform determined by using the color characteristics of the output devices along with the content of the job itself. The method further maps colors in the original job to the output devices' common gamut, i.e., intersection of the gamuts of the individual printers wherein the color gamut of each device is obtained from a device characterization profile either by retrieving the gamut tag or by derivation using the characterization data in the profile.

What is disclosed is a system and method for encoding and decoding data in a color barcode pattern using dot orientation and color separability. The spectral (wavelength) characteristics of the CMY colorants, commonly used in digital printing, and those of RGB sensors are exploited to achieve high capacity data embedding rates in color barcodes. The present method embeds independent data in two different printer colorant channels using dot orientation modulation. In the print end, dots of two colorants occupy the same spatial region. At the detector end, by using the complementary sensor channels to estimate the colorant channels, data is recovered in each colorant channel. The method approximately doubles the capacity of encoding methods based upon a single colorant channel and enables embedding rates which match or exceed that of other hardcopy barcodes known in the arts. The method is robust against inter-separation misregistration with a small symbol error rate.

What is disclosed is a novel system and method for encoding/decoding data in a cover contone image via halftone dot orientation modulation. Arrays of halftone threshold values are used to determine a desired orientation, e.g. 0/90&#xb0;+/&#x2212;45&#xb0; for a given single data value of the original message to be embedded. Message data is embedded as a function of halftone dot orientation. Detection modeling of the print-scan process enables the determination of dot orientation from the image scan via statistically motivated image moments. A probabilistic model of the print-scan channel conditions received moments on input orientation. Density values of the received moments are used to determine dot orientation for each halftone cell. The embedded data is retrieved based on the determined orientations. The present method is applicable to areas of data embedding, document security, and the like.

A system and method for halftoning for multi-pass rendering of an image in which different pixel locations are rendered in each pass which reduces the effects of inter-pass mis-registration errors. The method of halftoning includes restricting a substantial majority of the pixels turned on to render a tone to the minimum number of passes required to produce the tone. The halftoning method can include generating a stochastic halftone turn-on sequence and re-ordering the turn-on sequence. The halftoning method can also use error diffusion, adding a zero mean bias signal to either the image input pixels or the threshold values. The halftoning method is applicable to color or black and white rendering.

System and method of halftoning for multi-pass rendering

A method and system for identifying print jobs that are repeats of a previously completed job utilizing an object level hash table. Received print jobs can be parsed into meaningful classes of objects and a table of hash values can be computed for objects in each class and for each print job. A synopsis comprising the table of hash values can be retained in a database along with the job specific settings. A newly encountered job can be then declared as a repeat of a previous job based on the hashes for the new job that match the hash values for the previous job stored in the database. The classes of objects are readily determinable in common document formats used for print job submission, such as PDF.
