A data management system (DMS) may facilitate the storage tiering of snapshots on cloud environments. For example, the DMS may transmit snapshot signaling to a first cloud environment that instructs the first cloud environment to capture a first snapshot of a computing object and to store the first snapshot in a first type of cloud storage at the first cloud environment. The DMS may determine that the first snapshot has been stored in the first type of cloud storage for a duration of time that satisfies an archival threshold. Based on the archival threshold being satisfied, the DMS may transmit archival signaling that instructs the first cloud environment to store the first snapshot to a second type of cloud storage. The second type of cloud storage may be associated with a longer access latency than the first type of cloud storage.

Storage tiering for computing system snapshots

A storage appliance or system may support backup and recovery for virtual machines that support various applications. The storage appliance or system may process a backup snapshot of the virtual machine to identify security vulnerabilities in the virtual machine. The storage appliance may generate an index of software packages installed on the virtual machine and software versions of the software packages. The index of software packages may be compared to a list of security vulnerabilities to identify the security vulnerability at the virtual machine. A notification may be triggered, and the notification may indicate a result of comparing the index of software packages and the software versions to the list of vulnerabilities. In some examples, a set of network configurations implemented by the virtual machines may be determined by processing the backup snapshot and used to identify security vulnerabilities.

Efficient vulnerability analysis over backups

A method for data processing is described. The method may include retrieving, from a cloud storage environment accessible to a data management system (DMS), two or more observability data sets associated with a set of time intervals within a selected time range. The observability data sets may contain a set of time-partitioned data blocks that include tracing data associated with operations performed by one or more nodes of a node cluster of the DMS during the selected time range. The method may further include merging the tracing data by selecting a first subset of overlapping time-partitioned data blocks, omitting a second subset of the overlapping time-partitioned data blocks, and retaining one or more non-overlapping time-partitioned data blocks. The method may further include transmitting data corresponding to a visualization of the merged tracing data.

Merging and visualizing observability data sets

Methods, systems, and devices for data management are described. A data management system (DMS) may receive an indication of a storage configuration for an object storage location within a cloud environment. The DMS may generate a snapshot of a computing system in accordance with a backup policy associated with the computing system. The DMS may cause one or more data objects corresponding to the snapshot to be stored in the object storage location within the cloud environment in accordance with the storage configuration. The DMS may apply immutable object locks to the one or more data objects within the object storage location. The DMS may execute, in accordance with the backup policy associated with the computing system, one or more jobs that cause the respective immutable object locks for the one or more data objects to be extended one or more times during a retention period for the snapshot.

Immutable object locking for snapshot management

A file system in a user space partition of virtual memory may be mounted by a computing device that runs a virtual machine which includes a set of storage disks. The file system in user space may then expose one or more virtual files associated with one or more storage disks that correspond to one or more loop devices configured to map files of the virtual machine to the one or more virtual files. The computing device may then receive a request to read a data block stored at the virtual machine and may identify a file and corresponding virtual file that stores the requested data block based on a set of metadata provided by the loop devices. The computing device may then determine the location of the data block stored at the virtual machine, and may read the data block from the determined location.
