A method and system relate to receiving first comments, associated with first digital content, that are submitted by a first user, and determining an opinion of the first user with respect to the first digital content based on the one or more first comments. Determining the opinion of the first user with respect to the first digital content includes parsing the one or more first comments to determine a term included in the one or more first comments, and determining the opinion based on the term. The first user is clustered with second users who share the first users opinion regarding the first digital content. Second digital content, liked by at least one of the second users and have accessed by the first user, are identified, and a recommendation identifying the second digital content is presented for display to the first user.

A device may receive a request to establish a virtual theater. The device may provide, to multiple user devices, information regarding a transaction and one or more playback options for the virtual theater. The transaction may relate to establishing the virtual theater. The device may receive, from the multiple user devices, playback preference information based on the one or more playback options. The device may establish the virtual theater based on receiving the playback preference information and based on providing the information regarding the transaction. The device may provide, to the multiple of user devices, media content via the virtual theater based on the playback preference information.

A system and method relate to determining am initial buffer size associated with a buffer and modifying the initial buffer size when jitter is detected. The initial buffer size may be determined and modified based on a maximum initial buffer size, and the maximum initial buffer size may be determined based on delays associated with storing data to the buffer. For example, the maximum initial buffer size may correspond to a quantity of data that can be stored to the buffer during a maximum acceptable buffering delay. The maximum acceptable buffering delay may be identified by determining drop rates associated with different buffering delays and selecting, as the maximum acceptable buffering delay, one of the buffering delays associated with a maximum acceptable drop rate.

Adaptive buffers for media players

A system and method relate to identifying comments associated with digital content and submitted by one or more users. The comments are parsed to determine terms included in the comments. The respective classifications associated with the comments are determined based on the terms, and at least one classification of the digital content may be identified based on the respective classifications associated with the comments. In one implementation, the classification of the digital content is determined based on identifying comments associated with a portion of the digital content, and identifying a particular classification associated with at least a threshold number of the comments associated with the portion.

A network device may include a memory to store a database including voicemail message information associated with a voicemail mailbox, a transmitter, and a receiver. The transmitter may send a notification to each of a plurality of communication devices, the notification including an indication of a number of new voicemail messages in the voicemail mailbox, an indication of a total number of voicemail messages in the voicemail mailbox, and an identifier of a most recent voicemail message in the voicemail mailbox, where each of the plurality of communication devices uses the notification signal to determine whether to request a list of voicemail messages. The receiver may receive, from one of the communication devices in response to the notification, a request for the list of voicemail messages associated with voicemail message information stored in the database. The transmitter may sends, to the one of the plurality of communications devices, the list of voicemail messages.

Managing visual voicemail from multiple devices

A first user device receives, from a service provider network, digital media content and presents the digital media content to a user. The first user device receives, from the service provider network, an indication that a second user device, associated with an account of the user and providing a higher quality presentation, is available to present the digital media content. The first user device presents a notice to the user that the second user device is available. In one aspect, the notice to the user is be selected by the user to initiate a switch to the second user device.

A device receives, from a user device, recorded audio and input information associated with content viewed by a user of the user device, and converts the recorded audio into textual information. The device determines whether the content is an advertisement or television content based on the textual information and the input information, and provides, to the user device, promotional content related to the advertisement when the content is determined to be the advertisement. The device provides, to the user device, promotional content related to the television content when the content is determined to be the television content.

Contextual information between television and user device

A method may include receiving, from a first user device associated with a user profile, a first request for a media file and streaming the media file over a network to the first user device in a first format appropriate for the first device. The method may also include stopping the streaming of the media file and associating a stop time with the stopping, wherein the stop time indicates a position in the media file and receiving, from a second user device different from the first user device, a second request for the media file, the second user device being associated with the user profile. The method may also include streaming, starting at the stop time, the media file over the network to the second user device in a second format appropriate for the second device and different than the first format.

Distributing and sharing content in a network

Methods, devices, and non-transitory storage mediums provide a program handoff between user devices. The program handoff permits a user to select a user device with which to resume a playing of the program. The program handoff also permits a user to set a reminder for playing the program. Methods, devices, and non-transitory storage mediums provide for an application layer-based network offloading of programs. A program is buffered based on a network offloading time and the program is played from a buffer during an execution of a network offload. Network offload prediction is used to minimize network offload time and buffering.

A method that includes receiving a first request for video content from a user of a user device; retrieving an identifier for the user device using an application programming interface; sending a second request to receive the video content that includes the identifier; receiving an instruction to provide payment to rent or purchase the video content; sending the payment in response to the instruction; receiving the video content and a token, where the video content is encrypted based on a key and where the token indicates that the payment was processed; sending a third request to obtain a license associated with the video content that includes the token and the identifier; receiving the license, which includes the key and terms under which the video content is to be processed; decrypting the video content, using the key, when the decrypting is performed in a manner permitted by the terms; and playing the decrypted video content.

Secure video content provisioning using digital rights management

A device receives, from a user device, a request to use a visual voicemail (VVM) application, directs the user device to a self provisioning server based on the request, and receives, from the self provisioning server, a selected VVM subscription plan and information associated with a user of the user device. The device also provides, to a billing system, a feature code associated with the selected VVM subscription plan, receives, from one or more voicemail servers, pre-existing voicemail messages associated with the user, and provides, to the user device, the pre-existing voicemail messages.
