A mat comprising a first side and a second side opposite the first side is disclosed. The mat has a body with a thickness defined between the first side and the second side and a width defined between a first edge and a second edge. A plurality of fortifying members can be positioned between the first side and the second side extend within the body substantially vertically with respect to the width. A lip can extend from the body of the mat and have a first rib having a first rib thickness. A first channel portion can have a first channel thickness whereby the first rib thickness is greater than the first channel thickness.

The at least one primary structural support rib traverses the internal voids defined by the pattern of internal walls.

This invention relates to thermally-treating and hydroprocessing pyrolysis tar to produce a hydroprocessed pyrolysis tar, but without excessive foulant accumulation during the hydroprocessing. The process involves the use of two rotary valves to implement Varicol operation of a simulated moving bed apparatus to separate a product from at least one multicomponent feed. In a particular embodiment, paraxylene is separated from a mixture of C8 aromatic hydrocarbons. A composition includes a functionalized silicate nanoparticle comprising a reaction product of a silicate nanoparticle and a functionalization compound; and a fluid. The functionalization compound includes a chemical group that includes a first portion, the first portion being directly bonded to the silicate nanoparticle in the functionalized silicate nanoparticle; and a second portion including an aromatic moiety or a nonaromatic moiety.

A method of extracting hydrocarbons from a subterranean formation comprises forming a suspension comprising reactive particles and a carrier fluid.
