Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system, in a network storage system, for a remote key manager performing cryptographic operations upon a failure of a protected key manager, using a hardware encryption key (key) automatically migrated from the protected key manager. During initialization, the protected and remote key managers authenticate the communication channel (e.g. trustee link) between each other. A new key generated by dedicated hardware of the protected key manager is used by the protected key manager to perform cryptographic operations on data of a storage server. The remote key manager then requests and obtains the new key from the protected key manager across the trustee link. Upon a failure of the protected key manager, the remote key manager performs cryptographic operations on data of the storage server using the migrated key, ensuring accessibility and security of such data.

Method and system for automatically migrating encryption keys between key managers in a network storage system

Method for distributing encryption keys stored by a centralized key manager, operationally coupled to a first encryption device and the second encryption device is provided. The first encryption device and the second encryption device may request the CKM to provide the stored encryption keys in different formats and each encryption device may use a different encryption format to encrypt information. If the encryption devices are authorized to receive the stored encryption keys, then the CKM prepares the requested keys in different formats and provides them to the encryption devices.

A system and method for providing autosupport functionality to a security system is provided. An event generator generates an event and passes the newly generated event to a system log (syslog) module and marks the event as being associated with an autosupport facility. The syslog module then forwards the new event to an event router, which determines that the new event is associated with the autosupport facility and should be forwarded to an autosupport daemon. The autosupport daemon examines the current state of its queue and determines whether a free slot exists for the newly received event notification. Should no free slot exist, the autosupport daemon logs the event with no further action being performed. However, should a free slot exist, the autosupport daemon initiates a child process to notify a pre-configured set of recipients of the event.

System and method for providing autosupport for a security system

A system and method for determining a disk ownership model to be utilized by a storage system is disclosed. The storage system and method determines the individual disk ownership of each accessible disk to the storage system. If the number of disks utilizing a first ownership model is exceeded, the storage system utilizes the first ownership model. Otherwise, the storage system utilizes a second ownership model.
