Embodiments include methods of making a fabric laminates including depositing a first and a second columns of discrete adhesive masses on a first layer of fabric, wherein the first and second columns of discrete adhesive masses are separated by a first gap area, and placing a second layer of fabric on the first layer of fabric sandwiching the first and second columns of discrete adhesive masses, and applying pressure to all layers to form a fabric laminate structure while maintaining the first gap area unobstructed and forming a tunnel area between the first gap area and the first and second fabric layers. In some embodiments, ribbons may be pulled through the tunnels. In some embodiments, the tunnels include batting material. In some embodiments, films are placed on the first or second fabric layer and they imprint their surface finish onto the discrete adhesive masses wetting the surface of the fabric layers.

Systems and methods of apparel manufacturing using adhesive bonding

A garment assembly system including a fixture including an opening, an abutment surface formed in either the fixture or a housing disposable on the fixture, and a carrier. The carrier is disposable in the opening. The carrier is moveable between a retracted position and an extended position. In the extended position, the carrier is configured to press an open first joint of a tubular component disposed on the carrier and an open second joint of a base component disposed on the fixture together against the abutment surface.

Garment assembly system

A system for electrically coupling a garment to a mating object and manufacture method thereof, the system comprising: a fabric interlayer of the garment including a set of ports; an electronics substrate having a first surface adjacent to a second side of the fabric interlayer and including a set of vias through a thickness of the electronics substrate, aligned with the set of ports, and a set of contacts at a second surface opposing the first surface; a mount assembly having a third surface adjacent to the second surface of the electronics substrate and including a set of holes aligned with the set of vias and the set of ports, as well as a set of openings that correspond to and receive portions of the set of contacts, and a fourth surface opposing the third surface and defining a cavity configured to receive and electrically interface the mating object to the electronics substrate; and a set of fasteners that 1) compress the backing plate, the fabric interlayer, the electronics substrate, and the mount assembly by way of the set of ports, the set of vias, and the set of holes in supporting a waterproof seal, and 2) electrically couple the set of embedded ports to the set of vias.

Garment integrated electrical interface system and method of manufacture

A garment can be manufactured by bonding an adhesive to a first layer of fabric and a second layer of fabric. Holes are cut into each layer of fabric to accommodate the integration of sensors and a processing unit mount. Conductive thread embroidered onto a support layer is bonded to the adhesive of the second layer of fabric. The support layer is removed such that the conductive thread remains bonded to the adhesive. The layers of fabric are bonded together such that the conductive thread is coupled between the two layers of adhesive. A back plate is added to the layers of fabric to provide structural support for the mount. The conductive thread is exposed within each hole, and the mount and sensors can be coupled within the holes such that an electrical connection is established between the mount and at least one sensor via the conductive thread.

An electrode system for sensing biometric signals from a body region of a user and a method of manufacture thereof, the electrode system comprising: a substrate comprising a reference region and a signal communication region, the signal communication region including a set of conductive leads; a set of biosensing contacts coupled to the set of conductive leads; a non-conductive region ensheathing each of the set of biosensing contacts, the non-conductive region including: a set of openings that expose at least a portion of each of the set of biosensing contacts for interfacing with the body region of the user, upon coupling of the electrode system to the user; a first bonding layer that couples the substrate to a fabric base; and a second bonding layer coupled to the first bonding, wherein the substrate is hermetically sealed between the first bonding layer and the second bonding layer.

A stitchless seam comprises a first portion of material folded upon itself proximate an edge to define an overfolded end portion having overlapping edge and nonedge portions and a second portion of material positioned adjacent the overfolded end portion. A first portion of adhesive is interposed between the overlapping edge and nonedge portions and a second portion of adhesive is interposed between the second portion of material and the edge portion of the overfolded end portion. Energy may be applied, via an ultrasonic seam bonding machine or other means, to activate the adhesive portions. The seams may be used for items made of waterproof breathable laminate fabric material, such as garments and sports articles.

Adhesively bonded seams and seams forming methods

A method of forming a stitchless, adhesively bonded seam involves placing a first strip of adhesive between the outside surface of first and second sheets of material along an edge of the second sheet. At least a portion of a second strip of adhesive is positioned against a first portion of the inside surface of the second sheet along the edge thereof. The second sheet of material is folded such that a second portion of the inside surface overlies the second strip of adhesive. In some embodiments the first and second strips of adhesive are replaced by a single longitudinally folded strip of adhesive. Energy may be applied, via an ultrasonic seam bonding machine or other means, to activate the adhesive. Seams made according to the disclosed methods may be used for garments, sports articles, and other items made of fabric or other sheet material.
