A novel molybdenum dithiocarbamate composition is produced by preparing a di-tridecylamine (DTDA) intermediate from a butylene feedstock comprising greater than 50% 2-butylene, and preparing a molybdenum dithiocarbamate composition from the DTDA intermediate. An extreme pressure additive composition for use in grease contains alkaline earth metal derivatives of 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole (DMTD) complexed to alkylene glycol fluids and or PAG fluids. In addition, additives for extreme pressure and antiwear contain a complex of alkali and/or alkaline earth metal derivatives of DMTD with alkylene glycol fluids and or PAG fluids, in combination with an organophosphorus compound.

Alkali and alkaline earth thiadiazole additives and lubricating compositions containing the same

Compositions comprising silicone fluids are formulated to provide improved metal-to-metal lubrication. Such Lubricating compositions comprise a major amount of (1) one or more siloxane polymer ('silicone fluids') selected from dimethyl siloxane polymers (also known as dimethyl silicone) and/or phenylmethyl dimethyl siloxane copolymers (also known as phenyl silicone), and lesser amounts of (2) synthetic and/or bio-based ester co-fluid, and (3) an alkoxylated aliphatic polyamine derivative. Unexpectedly, the compositions show a significant improvement in metal-to-metal lubrication, performing better than either the silicone fluids alone or and a combination of silicone with-ester and or silicone with-alkoxylated aliphatic polyamine combinations.

Silicone based lubricant compositions

The invention relates to an extreme pressure additive composition with excellent corrosion resistance properties for use in grease, as well as a lubricating grease composition containing the additive. The additive composition is based on (a) approximately equal amounts by mass of antimony diamyldithiocarbamate and zinc diamyldithiocarbamate, and (b) thiadiazole dimer poly(ether)glycol complex; at (a):(b) mass ratio of about 1.6:1 to about 9.6:1.

Molybdenum-free lubricating compositions are provided, having an antioxidation additive composition based on a combination of (1) alkylated diphenylamine (APDA), (2) polyamine dispersant, and (3) monoglyceride, ethoxylated amide, or mixtures thereof. Antimony dithiocarbamate is known to provide extreme pressure (EP) protection in lubricating compositions, such as grease. However, there is a desire to reduce the amount of antimony used in such compositions, while still maintaining acceptable EP performance. It has now been found by using small amounts of either ammonium dithiocarbamate or zinc dithiocarbamate in combination with the antimony dithiocarbamate (SbDTC), a lower amount of SbDTC can be used in the lubricating composition while still maintaining excellent or exceptional EP protection. To counteract the corrosive effects of the SbDTC and ammonium dithiocarbamate composition, it has been found that compounds containing a carboxylic acid group are effective in avoiding copper corrosion.
