Systems and methods are provided for aggregating a local media collection of a user with one or more shared media collections shared with the user to provide an aggregate media collection for the user. In general, media collection information of a plurality of shared media collections from a plurality of second client devices are obtained. Media collection information identifying media items from at least one of the plurality of shared media collections and a local media collection of a first user are processed. An aggregated media collection based on the processed media collection information is provided where the aggregated media collection comprises a primary list including a media item entry for each unique media item.

Method and system for aggregating media collections between participants of a sharing network

A system and method are provided for discovering new friends using recommendation paths in a media recommendation network. In general, media items are recommended among users in a media recommendation network. Use of media items by the users is monitored. If the use of a media item by a user exceeds a threshold, a determination is made as to whether the media item was recommended to the user. If so, that recommendation is identified as a highly valued recommendation for that user. Thereafter, when the user desires to identify new friends from which to receive recommendations and to which to send recommendations, a recommendation path for the highly valued recommendation is identified. Users in the recommendation path that are not already friends of the user are identified as potential new friends for the user.

Identifying highly valued recommendations of users in a media recommendation network

A media item recommendation rating system and method are provided. A recommendation rating for media items is established and dynamically updated in response to media items being recommended to other users. A recommendation server or other device receives a report of a media item recommendation and updates a recommendation rating in response. The recommendation rating may also be updated based on how often a recommended media item is used or played. Thus, a media item's recommendation rating is affected by events relating to its recommendation, as opposed simple play-based ratings that are updated on any play action regardless of whether related to a recommendation or not. Simple play-based ratings do not distinguish between ordinary usages or plays and those resulting from recommendations.

Rating media item recommendations using recommendation paths and/or media item usage

A system and method for collaboratively providing configurations for a media environment are provided. In general, configuration events from a number of media environments are collected and provided to a Collaborative Configuration System (CCS) server. Based on the configuration events, the CCS server generates and provides recommended configurations to a media environment. The recommended configurations may be generated prior to or after receiving a request for recommended configurations from the media environment. In one embodiment, the recommended configurations are provided as a recommended configuration profile providing a set of configurations to be applied at the media environment. In another embodiment, the recommended configurations are provided as a CCS track associated with a particular media presentation. The CCS track includes configuration changes to be applied to the media environment for a number of time slices of the media presentation during playback of the media presentation.

Collaborative configuration of a media environment

A system and method are provided for creating collaborative content tracks to be presented to a user concurrently with a media presentation such as a movie, an episode of a television series, a song, or the like. Each time a user selects and plays a media presentation, user events describing actions taken by the user while viewing or listening to the media presentation are collected and provided to a Collaborative Content Track (CCT) server. The user events may include user events occurring on a primary media playback system, user events occurring on associated secondary user devices, or a combination thereof. In this manner, the CCT server obtains user events for each of a number of media presentations. Based on the user events, the CCT server may generate CCTs for any one of the media presentations to be presented to a user concurrently with the media presentation.

System and method for creating collaborative content tracks for media content

A system and method of allowing a recipient to control and customize filtering of recommenders in a media item recommendation system. Filtering recommenders allows the recipient to control from which recommenders media item recommendations can be received. Recommenders may be filtered using a tag associated by the recipient with the recommender. The tag may be any attribute. If the recommender is tagged with the attribute matching a current selection criterion established by the recipient, media item recommendations from the recommender may be sent to the recipient. If the recommender is not tagged with the attribute matching the current selection criterion, the recommender is filtered out and the media item recommendation from the recommender may not be sent to the recipient. The recipient may define the current selection criterion by setting a presentation channel.

System and method of filtering recommenders in a media item recommendation system

Systems and methods are provided for aggregating a local media collection of a user with one or more shared media collections shared with the user to provide an aggregate media collection for the user. In general, one or more shared media collections shared with the user are first discovered. Optionally, the user may select one or more of the shared media collections for aggregation with the local media collection of the user. The shared media collections selected by the user, or alternatively all of the shared media collections, are then aggregated with the local media collection of the user to provide an aggregate media collection for the user.

Systems and methods are provided for creation and management of an active playlist having dynamic media item groups. A number of media items to be used for the active playlist are first identified and classified into one or more media item groups based on a primary criterion and, optionally, one or more secondary criteria to provide an underlying pool of media items for the active playlist. The active playlist is then populated with media items from the underlying pool of media items. More specifically, the active playlist is divided into media item groups corresponding to those in the underlying pool of media items. Each media item group in the active playlist is populated with a predefined number of the media items in the corresponding media item group in the underlying pool of media items. Thereafter, the media items in the media item groups of the active playlist are dynamically updated.

The present invention is related to a computer system that provides a web page to a requestor over a network. Aspects of the present invention include receiving by the computer system a request to access a web page and in response, determining whether a descriptor for the requested web page is in a session memory. If the descriptor is not in the session memory, it is retrieved from a database and the stored in the session memory. From there, the descriptor is used to determine whether the web page should be retrieved and returned to the requestor. By storing the descriptor in session memory, additional accesses to the database can be avoided when the descriptor is used for subsequent tasks.

Method and system for providing image rich web pages from a computer system over a network

Systems, methods, and computer program products for synchronizing digital photo albums at peer servers with a proxy server and a guest content server in a photosharing peer-to-peer network are provided such that the proxy server and guest content server can serve content to requesters from photo albums of an off-line peer server. A synchronization manager receives a request from a peer server to synchronize image files of one or more photo albums at the peer server with image files cached on the proxy server. The synchronization manager directs a web robot to crawl the URL of each photo album identified in the request and to identify image files at the peer server that have been modified and/or that are not currently cached on the proxy server. The web robot also identifies non-image files associated with each image file. The web robot retrieves and caches identified image files on the proxy server. The web robot retrieves and caches identified non-image files on the guest content server.

Systems, methods, and computer program products for synchronizing files in a photosharing peer-to-peer network

At least two computer systems in a peer-to-peer network are utilized to support a secure transaction. Aspects of the present invention include allowing a shopper to create an order to purchase an item stored on a first computer system in the peer-to-peer network, and after the order is created, passing the order and control from the first computer system to a second computer system in the peer-to-peer network. The second computer system establishes a secure transaction session with the shopper, and then proceeds to process the order.

Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for tagging files. Metadata is associated to files, and subjective metadata is assigned to the metadata. Any metadata common to multiple files may have different subjective metadata. Tags, for example, may be associated to the files, and a subjective level of importance may be assigned to each tag. Any tag that is commonly assigned to different files may thus have different levels of importance.
