Crown assemblies are described, having novel extension units, selectable vibrational lengths, stoppers with flexible coupling to the crown and regulated pressure against a headjoint tube, and crowns with radial-arm contact surfaces. The novel extension units are situated between the embouchure and the crown and extend the vibrational length between those points. This extension gives the flute tone greater depth and resonance and gives the player greater control over the vibration of the flute tube. A selectable extension unit features distinct vibrational lengths at indexed points of rotation of the crown, providing a means for rapidly changing the tone and response of the instrument in a fashion heretofore unknown on flutes. Improvements to crown and stopper design allow freer vibration of the headjoint tube between embouchure and crown, further enhancing the benefits of the novel extension unit.

A sample bag for collecting a mixture of gasses for analysis is made of a modified polymer consisting essentially of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and at most about 2.0 percent perfluoropropylvinylether (PPVE).

An apparatus for sampling the emission content of an exhaust gas from an exhaust source has an exhaust inlet adapted for connecting the exhaust source with a venturi metering device for measuring the flow rate of the exhaust gas. The venturi metering device includes a housing having an entrance section, a throat section, and an exit section, the throat section having a smaller diameter than the entrance and exit sections. The housing includes first and second pressure transducers that produce an electrical output that characterizes the pressure that the pressure sensing means senses, the electrical outlet enabling a computer of the venturi metering device to accurately measure the pulsating flow of the exhaust gas in both directions.

A gas separator connectable between the seating nipple/pump and the mud anchor of a well production line takes advantage of gravitational, shear and centrifugal forces to detrain gas from the formation fluid. An outer cylindrical tube is concentrically secured by upper and lower couplings in relation to an inner cylindrical tube having an axial flow passage and a plurality of radial perforations. The upper coupling is adapted for connection to the seating nipple/pump and the lower coupling is adapted for connection to the mud anchor. The couplings each have a passage therethrough to extend the inner tube axial flow passage in fluid communication between the pump and the mud anchor. The outer cylindrical tube has a plurality of inwardly downwardly centrifugally oriented passages for admitting liquid entrained with gas into an annulus between the tubes and for causing the admitted liquid to flow in a downward spiral in the annulus. The centrifugally oriented passages have irregular sawtooth surfaces extending inwardly downwardly and approximately tangentially in relation to the inner wall of the outer cylindrical tube so as to shear the gas from the fluid and centrifugally cause the gas to move inwardly and the oil and gas combinations to move outwardly in the annulus.

A mixing system includes a dilution inlet, an elbow duct, and a gaseous inlet in flow communication with the elbow duct along the elbow duct outer turning radius. The elbow duct has a first end in flow communication with the dilution inlet, and a second end outlet for connecting to external equipment, such as a sampling system.

In a downhole sucker rod string stress absorber, a relatively inelastic plunger of circular cross-section is mounted on a concentric shaft extending upwardly to an upper portion of the sucker rod string. A resiliently compressible cushion of circular cross-section is disposed below the plunger and above a lower portion of the sucker rod string. A disk may be seated between the cushion and the plunger to distribute forces more evenly on the surface of the cushion. A resiliently compressible cylindrical sleeve, preferably having a plurality of annular grooves spaced thereabout, surrounds the shaft above the plunger. A coupling, adapted for connection to the lower portion of the sucker rod string, has a threaded end with a compressive face which abuts the outer end of the compressible cushion. A guide slidably mounted on the shaft has a threaded end with a compressive face thereon which abuts the outer end of the compressible sleeve. A cylindrical housing connects the coupling and the guide with the compressible cushion, the compressible sleeve and the plunger therebetween, the length of the housing being such that the compressible cushion and sleeve are increasingly partially compressed between the compressive faces as the guide and/or coupling are threaded further into the housing.

An exhaust sampler for use in evaluating exhaust emissions of an exhaust source such as an internal combustion engine which utilizes a calibrated subsonic venturi for measuring the exhaust or exhaust/dilution air flow rate. Controls are provided for selecting and controlling a variety of flow rates between or during test periods. The system also provides a variety of control methods for extracting a sample from the bulkstream flow of exhaust and dilution air or from raw exhaust flow.

A sonic venturi is used to establish a constant mass flow rate from the exhaust system of the engine under test and a subsonic venturi monitors the flow rate of dilution air. Both venturis provide flow rate signals which are substracted to determine the flow rate of the exhaust.
