A UV curable CF ink composition is provided which is formed from a UV curable ink base, an acidic color developer, and a solvent. The UV curable CF ink composition may be applied to a substrate inline on a printing press using conventional letterpress or offset techniques without discoloration or smudging of the ink.

A laminated product is provided including a carrier sheet, a polymeric film ply, a polymeric card ply, and a radiation-curable laminating adhesive. The polymeric film ply is secured to the carrier sheet and extends over a cut-out portion formed in the carrier sheet. The polymeric card ply is positioned within the cut-out portion. Either the film ply, the card ply, or both, are transparent to electromagnetic radiation. The radiation-curable laminating adhesive is positioned to secure the polymeric card ply to the exposed ply portion and comprises a bonding agent, a monomer, an oligomer, a tackifier, and a photocatalyst. The bonding agent is present in a quantity sufficient to improve the bonding characteristics of the adhesive composition. The monomer is present in a quantity sufficient to (i) increase the flexibility of the adhesive composition, and (ii) increase the tendency of the adhesive composition to release substantially cleanly from a surface to which it is bonded. The oligomer is present in a quantity sufficient to increase the dimensional stability of the adhesive composition. The tackifier is present in a quantity sufficient to increase the uncured tack of the adhesive composition. The photocatalyst is present in a quantity sufficient to increase the tendency of the adhesive composition to cure upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation.

A thermally imagable business record, such as a form, label, tag, or the like is provided which may be activated to form human and/or machine readable images as well as different colored images. The record comprises a substrate having a thermally imagable coating on substantially its entire surface which forms a first color when activated, and having a desensitized area on at least one area of its surface which may be overcoated with a thermally imagable coating capable of forming a different color upon activation than the first thermally imagable coating. The first thermally imagable coating provides images which are of machine readable quality, while the additional thermally imagable coatings provide images of a different color to designate selected areas on the form or label to a user.

A security ink is provided containing a colored dye, a colored pigment, and a fluorescent pigment. The ink may be printed on a number of security documents such as checks and may be passed through printing devices such as laser printers without the problem of damage to the ink the printed image, or the printer. The fluorescent pigment in the ink will fluoresce when the document is exposed to ultraviolet light and may be used to provide an authentication feature.

A printable product label assembly having a selectably adhesive portion is provided. The label assembly includes a printable face sheet overlying a liner sheet, a releasable adhesive securing a first portion of the face sheet to a first portion of the liner sheet such that the face sheet and liner sheet are readily separable upon the application of a sufficient delaminating force. A pressure sensitive adhesive secures a second portion of the face sheet to a second portion of the liner sheet such that when the label is removed from the liner sheet, only a selected area of the label includes the pressure sensitive adhesive, while the remainder of the label is nontacky to the touch.

Product label assembly

A multi-ply form or label which utilizes a clean release adhesive for securing one or more of the plies together is provided. Different embodiments provide a laminated postal card or mailer having a return envelope or a multi-ply product label. In all of these embodiments of the invention, the plies of the label, postal card, or form are secured together in a manner which withstands rough handling and minimizes lost or torn plies. The various embodiments of the invention also include both preprinted information as well as the capability to record variable information on more than one ply in a single printing pass.

A high solids contents, aqueous-based, self-contained printing ink is provided including, a non-volatile diluent, an acidic color developer, a binder, and a water soluble surfactant which is compatible with the binder in the ink, but which is incompatible with the binder when the ink has dried. The high solids, self-contained printing ink further includes microcapsules containing a dyestuff precursor that is capable of reacting with the acidic color developer to form a color. The ink may be used to prepare self-contained carbonless copy sheets.

A high solids content, aqueous, color developer-containing printing inks having as it main ingredients water, a non-volatile diluent and an acidic color developer such as zinc salicylate or a phenolic resin. The high CF printing ink preferably has a 50-70% by weight solids content and may be used as a low-coat-weight CF coating for preparing carbonless copy paper by coating the high solids CF printing ink on a support sheet at a coat weight of less than 3 gm/m.sup.2.

A postal card or mailer construction comprising a cover sheet adhered to a base sheet is provided which is simple to manufacture and print by automated systems and which is capable of providing hidden confidential information to an addressee. Upon receipt, the addressee can readily peel back the cover sheet and read the confidential information. Through the use of a releasable adhesive, once delaminated, all surfaces of the postal card construction have nontacky surfaces, permitting easy handling and storage by the recipient. The construction includes a base sheet, a cover sheet overlying the base sheet, and a releasable adhesive securing a first surface of the cover sheet to a first surface of the base sheet such that the cover sheet and base sheet are readily separable. The releasable adhesive contains therein a first color former composition which, when exposed to a second color developer composition, forms a distinctive color. At least oen of the first and second compositions are contained in a plurality of capsules which rupture upon the application of an impact force on the cover sheet. When an imaging force is applied to the cover sheet, the capsules of the first composition are ruptured, mix with the second composition on the surface of the base sheet, and form a distinctive color to duplicate the information from the imaging force.

Clean release postal card or mailer

A laminate construction is provided which includes a backing sheet, a face sheet covering at least a portion of the backing sheet, and a releasable adhesive securing the face sheet to the backing sheet. The construction also includes first and second compositions which, when combined, form a distinctive color. The compositions are so arranged in the construction so that the application of an imaging force to the face sheet causes the compositions to combine and produce a color in the area beneath the imaging force. The face sheet can be peeled away to provide a nontacky label or the like, while a duplicate copy of the information printed onto the face sheet remains on the backing sheet. The construction may also include one or more intermediate plied which provide additional copies of the information.
