A closure having a device for lifting a liner from a container opening. The lifting device being a finger projecting from a hinge connection within the closure. The hinge connection is positioned from a depending skirt of the closure. The hinged finger disengages the liner from a sealing engagement with the container while engaging along substantially the same annulus spaced from the liner edge. A plurality of the hinged fingers may be used for the lifting device. The closure may be used in various retort and aseptic applications, as well as provide for tamper indication.

A closure for maintaining pressure against a seal affixed to a container lip during a thermal sterilization process includes a top wall and an annular skirt depending from said top wall, at least one retaining structure extending from the annular skirt, a reseal structure rotatably disposed above said retaining structure and adjacent said top wall, an inner seal rotatably disposed above the retaining structure and beneath a lower surface of said reseal structure, wherein said inner seal and said reseal structure are both rotatable relative to said closure.

The present invention comprises a neck extending upwardly from a container and having an upper rim defining a neck opening. The neck has a substantially vertical sidewall of a constant thickness and at least one container neck thread extending from the sidewall. The at least one neck thread has an outer thread face drafted from a radially inward upper position to a radially outward lower position. The device further comprises a closure having a top wall and a skirt depending from the top wall, wherein the skirt is tapered. The closure comprises a closure thread extending helically along an inner surface of the skirt. The container thread has increasing radial length moving downwardly along the container neck.

The dispensing closure is provided having a stopping mechanism that limits the rotation of the closure and generally prevents removal of the closure from the container. The dispensing closure includes a cap body, fitment, and container finish. The cap body has a double shell design, which includes at least one drop lug reverse tapered from the inner shell. When the cap body is rotated about the container finish, the reverse tapered drop lug engages at least one lug stop located on the container finish so as to limit the rotation, thereby preventing removal of the cap body from the container finish. The reverse taper of the drop lug maximizes the abutment surface and stability of the drop lug when engaging the corresponding lug stop.

A clamping fixture for a retort process wherein a clamping fixture is disposed about a container having a seal positioned over a container-dispensing aperture. The clamping fixture applies a force to an outer surface of the seal in order to combat internal vapor pressures, which rise during a retort process and may break the seal. A first embodiment may be used with a manual process while a second embodiment may be used with a multiple station automated retort process.

Apparatus for producing a retort thermal processed container with a peelable seal

A dispensing system having a reverse taper dispensing orifice seal. The reverse tapered seal depends from a lid of a flip-top closure providing a sealing engagement with a dispensing spout of the flip-top closure body when in a closed position. As the dispensing spout may have a variety of shapes, the reverse tapered seal is shaped to conform to the irregularities of the contacted surfaces of the dispensing spout. The decreasing thickness of the reverse tapered seal decreases the complexity of the molding process as well as minimizing the weakening or breaking of the seal during removal from the mold cavity.

The present development is for a closure which provides a liner for abutting a surface and maintaining an effective pressure against a peelable seal affixed to a container lip as the sealed container is exposed to relatively high temperature and pressure conditions. The liner which abuts a surface of the seal sandwiches the seal between the liner and the container lip. The liner defines a resting thickness at ambient temperature and pressure conditions and is made from a material capable of being compressed to a thickness less than the resting thickness and of recovering to a recovery thickness sufficient to allow the liner to maintain a positive pressure against the seal upon exposure to elevated temperatures, elevated pressure, or a combination of elevated temperature and elevated pressure.

The present development is for a closure which provides a means for maintaining an effective pressure against a peelable seal affixed to a container lip as the sealed container is exposed to relatively high temperature and pressure conditions. The closure includes a liner which abuts a surface of the seal so as to sandwich the seal between the liner and the container lip. The resilient liner and inner foil seal are positioned above a retaining structure and function such that the peelable seal will not rotate relative to a container rim upon engaging the container rim as the closure is rotationally applied. This functions to inhibit torque transmission from the closure to the inner seal or reseal structure and further inhibits imperfections in the container rim from scraping or otherwise damaging the inner seal.

A push-pull dispenser is shown having a base portion, an upwardly extending neck portion, a stem extends upwardly from the neck and has at least one stem lug depending from an upper portion of the stem. The stem lug may have four sides including an upper tapered or beveled surface and a lower horizontal surface. The push-pull dispenser also comprises a slidable dispensing cap disposed over the stem and at least one folding finger extending upwardly from a lower portion of the slidable dispensing cap. The at least one folding finger has an upper horizontal surface which engages the lower horizontal surface of the stem lug and inhibits resultant forces which typically cause slidable dispensing caps to deflect.

A closure-container package comprising a container having a shoulder and a neck extending upward from the shoulder and having an external thread extending helically about the neck, a closure having a top wall and skirt depending from a peripheral edge of the skirt, the skirt having an internal thread mating with the external thread of the container neck, the closure having a rotary seal depending from the closure, the closure and container each having at least one on-direction stop mechanism operably engaged, the closure-container package having a child resistance feature and, the closure having a tamper indicating band with ratchets on an interior surface engaging ratchets on the container neck.

A container finish comprising a helical load carrying member which transmits downward force from the top wall of a closure to the threads of a container to prevent seal failure under stacking load conditions. The helical load carrying member is preferably located on a container neck, parallel to a primary thread. In the alternative the helical load carrying member may be located on a closure finish.

A plastic safety closure with a tamper-indicating band is described. The closure includes a tamper-indicating band depending from the skirt of the closure. The tamper indicating band includes a frangible portion with one or more openings therein. The openings may form an interrupted slot or a continuous slot. Each opening includes a lip projecting outwardly therefrom and another lip projecting inwardly therefrom. These lips provide greater contacting area at the inner surface of the opening, thereby facilitating the alignment of the lower portion of the tamper-indicating band as it is forced into position on a container fitment.

A two stage dispensing cap for a carbonated beverage container is described. The cap has a flip top which is hingedly connected to a collar wherein the collar is rotatable on the container. The cap, upon rotation of the collar, is first opened into a venting position wherein the flip top vents the pressurized contents of the container but remains locked partially closed. Continued rotation of the cap releases the locked flop top to allow the container to be fully opened. A set of cams on the container neck work in conjunction with annular beads to first allow partially opening of the flip top into the venting position and then allowing it to fully open.
