A system and method of selectively extending a wash cycle duration of a warewasher beyond a set minimum duration provides suitable cleaning of wares while at the same time seeking to increase the number of wash cycles per unit time. A system and method for detecting water level in a wash chamber or other tank provides the ability to identify a progressively fouling electrode. A system and method of automatically priming one or more chemical feed lines of a warewasher is also described.

Systems and methods for controlling warewasher wash cycle duration, detecting water levels and priming warewasher chemical feed lines

The invention is a gas fired water booster comprising a holding tank, a centrifugal pump, an infrared burner enclosed by a woven ceramic fiber sleeve, a primary and a secondary heat exchanger, and a gas/air supply source. Preferably, the tank and the burner are generally annular in shape and the burner is disposed substantially within the tank. An air/gas mixture is supplied to the burner by a blower and is ignited creating a combustion surface approximately one eighth of an inch above the surface of the woven ceramic fiber sleeve. Water is continuously circulated through the heat exchange system and the burner remains on until a temperature sensor indicates that the water has attained a temperature in the desired sanitizing range. When the booster is turned off the pump continues to pump water through the system for a period of time in order to remove any latent heat from the heat exchange system thereby avoiding vaporization of water left in therein, thus enhancing the life and reliability of the heat exchanger and booster accordingly.

A continuous-flow warewashing apparatus that includes: a substantially rectangular tub having four side walls and a floor; a pump; a tub outlet channel coupled between the tub and the inlet port of the pump for providing fluid communication between the tub interior and the pump; and an array of outlet nozzles, where each of the outlet nozzles are in fluid communication with the outlet port of the pump and extend into the tub interior so as to provide a continuous-flow of washing fluid into the tub. A substantial portion of the outlet nozzles are positioned substantially along a first one of the side walls and pointed towards a second one of the side walls immediately adjacent to the first one of the side walls, such that the nozzles are adapted to jet fluid in a whirlpool-like manner substantially about the perimeter of the tub.

Continuous-flow ware washing apparatus

A continuous-flow warewashing apparatus that includes: a substantially rectangular tub having four side walls and a floor; a pump; a tub outlet channel coupled between the tub and the inlet port of the pump for providing fluid communication between the tub interior and the pump; a recess extending into one of the side walls to form a recessed area within the tub interior, outside of the perimeter formed by the four side walls; at least one outlet nozzle in fluid communication with the outlet port of the pump and extending into the tub interior so as to provide a continuous flow of washing fluid into the tub interior; a fluid-level sensor positioned within the tub interior; and a heating coil positioned within the tub interior; where at least one of the outlet nozzle, fluid-level sensor, or heating coil is positioned in the recessed area so that effective working and holding area within the tub is increased.

A continuous-flow pot and pan washing system comprising a frame; a substantially rectangular tub mounted on the frame, where the side walls of the tub are shorter in length than the back and front walls of the tub; a pump mounted to the frame; a tub outlet channel coupled between the back wall of the tub and an inlet port of the pump, providing fluid communication between the tub interior and the pump; a manifold mounted to a first one of the sidewalls, having a manifold inlet coupled to, and a fluid communication with, the outlet port of the pump; and an array of outlet nozzles extending from the manifold, through the sidewall and into the tub interior, where a substantial portion of the outlet nozzles are angled towards one of the front or back walls such that the nozzles are adapted to jet fluid in a whirlpool-like manner substantially about the perimeter of the tub. Preferably the nozzle array includes nozzles positioned at least two vertical levels. This assures that at least two vertical portions of the tub interior experience the whirlpool-like turbulence. The washing tub also preferably includes rectangular recess extending into one of the tub walls to provide a substantially turbulent-free bay within the tub interior. A fluid level sensor and a heating element extend into the bay and operate without significant interference from the turbulence created by the nozzles. Because the heating element is recessed from, and screened off from, the effective area of the tub, a safer and larger effective washing area is provided.

A warewashing machine has a washing chamber with an enlarged height to increase the chamber's capacity without increasing the warewashing machine's surface area, and has collapsible doors to facilitate larger openings to the enlarged washing chamber. The larger openings and enlarged capacity allow the warewashing machine to wash oversized wares. The collapsible doors allow the full access to the enlarged openings without significantly increasing the minimum height of the ceiling over the warewashing machine. The warewashing machine door also includes a pivoting handle with an downward curving arcuate section to allow the operator to easily reach the handle when the door is fully opened.

An improved method and apparatus is provided to control the moisture content of pulp which is discharged from a press. During operation of the press, slurry containing the pulp enters the press and engages a screw which is rotated to feed the pulp upwardly in the press. As the wet pulp moves upwardly, water is removed from the pulp. In order to further reduce the moisture content of the pulp, a restrictor member or cone in the press outlet is effective to compress the pulp against helical flighting of the screw. In order to maintain the moisture content of the discharged pulp substantially constant with variations in wet pulp consistency and to prevent overloading of the press drive motor, the restrictor cone is movable axially along the screw drive shaft to vary the extent to which it restricts the press outlet. The restrictor cone is moved along the screw drive shaft under the influence of forces applied against the outer surface of the cone by the wet pulp. This movement of the cone adjusts the extent to which the outlet from the press is restricted and the extent to which the wet pulp is compressed with variations in the consistency of the wet pulp.
