An example method includes generating a trouble ticket for a first subscriber loop based on a result of a diagnostic test, the diagnostic test being performed on the first subscriber loop when a value representing crosstalk coupling between the first subscriber loop and a second subscriber loop exceeds a threshold. The first subscriber loop and the second subscriber loop belong to a vectored group of subscriber loops contained in a same cable binder. The example method includes submitting the trouble ticket.

Methods, systems, and computer program products, for optimizing performance of ports in a network are provided. The method includes gathering a set of performance data for a port provisioned with a profile. The profile is defined by parameters with associated metrics that are used to establish a level of service for the port. The method also includes analyzing the set of performance data in light of the parameters in the profile to determine a current performance level of the port and performing a set of actions using the current performance level as a baseline. The set of actions include incrementally adjusting at least one of the parameters, determining another set of performance data in response to the adjusting, evaluating the performance data to determine a new performance level, and determining from the new performance level if a maximum performance level for the port is realized.

A method involves receiving performance data associated with a quantity of errors detected over a period of time on the DSL loop and adjusting the target noise margin for the DSL loop based on the performance data. The target noise margin is inversely associated with the DSL data rate that can be established and is adjusted in order to maximize the DSL data rate while minimizing the quantity of errors detected over the period of time. Thus, embodiments of the present invention allow a maximum data rate that can be sustained on a DSL loop without an excessive quantity of errors.

A system and method for verifying the integrity of a DSL circuit on a shared telephone line. The invention uses the amplitude modulation principles to overcome the difficulty associated with a blocking capacitor that isolates a DSLAM on the DSL circuit from the rest of the shared telephone line. A transmitter of the invention mixes a high frequency carrier signal and a low frequency audio signal to produce an amplitude-modulated test signal. The amplitude modulated signal is supplied to the telephone line at a main distributing frame side of the blocking capacitor and is detected by a receiver at the DSLAM side of the blocking capacitor.

System and method for verifying central office wiring associated with line sharing

A characteristic of a local loop is used to estimate the loop's data carrying capacity. The characteristic is measured and applied to a table previously stored in memory which contains values relating the characteristic to downstream data rates. Using interpolation when required, an estimate of the data carrying capacity of the local loop is estimated based on the measured characteristic. The measured characteristic may be, for example, the input impedance or the DC resistance of the local loop.

An apparatus for testing the installation of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines (ADSLs) that includes an ADSL Transceiver Unit - Central Office (ATU-C), an ADSL Transceiver Unit - Remote (ATU-R) and a load coil detector. The apparatus can test the operation of the Central Office ATU, the quality of the POTS cable pair connecting the end-user to the Central Office and the operation of the end-user's equipment. The tests can be carried out by using a standard main distribution frame test cord to connect the test apparatus to the existing test jacks and test shoes at the main distribution frame.

Central office based ADSL test platform

An apparatus for isolating ADSL signals from POTS signals includes a single low pass filter for filtering the POTS signals for all POTS terminal devices within a customer's premises. The low pass filter is mounted within a line isolation device (LID) connected between a telephone jack and an ADSL transceiver. The customer's wiring is altered so that the ADSL and POTS signals are supplied to blue (B) and yellow (Y) lines, rather than the typical connection to the red (R) and green (G) lines, and the LID returns filtered POTS signals on the R and G lines. The telephone jacks within the premises remain connected to the R and G lines and receive the filtered POTS signals from the LID. Instead of reconnecting incoming signals to the R and G lines upon removal of the ADSL transceiver, a jack is preferably used which automatically shorts the B and Y lines to the R and G lines, respectively, upon removal of the LID from one of the telephone jacks. A wall-mounted connector for coupling with the LID includes a pair of shorting bars. When the connector for the LID is inserted into the jack, a set of coupling members for making connections between the connectors are moved away from the shorting bars and are electrically isolated from each other. When the LID connector is inserted into the jack, each shorting bar contacts a pair of coupling members, thereby shorting the B and Y lines to the R and G lines, respectively.
