An upholstery tack strip includes a metal ribbon and a thermoplastic sleeve covering at least a portion of the ribbon. The sleeve includes at least one, and possibly a pair of, lengthwise removed strip section(s) so as to expose a corresponding lengthwise surface of the metal ribbon. The metal ribbon integrally includes nail sections which protrude outwardly from said tack strip. At least one, and preferably both, lateral edges of the metal ribbon are knurled or serrated so as to assist in anchoring the ribbon to the sleeve.

Upholstery fabric tack strips and methods of making same

Protective strips for use in the manufacture of upholstered furniture include a fastening strip portion, a cover strip portion and a hinge portion which flexibly connects the fastening and cover strip portions to one another. In use, the protective strips may be positioned such that a portion of the upholstery fabric is sandwiched between the fastening strip portion thereof and a portion of the furniture frame to which the fabric is to be attached. Suitable fasteners (e.g., staples, tacks, nails, brads and like fasteners) may then be physically driven through the fastening strip portion and the underlying fabric portion into the furniture frame and thereby fasten the fabric portion physically to the frame. Once the fastening strip portion has been fastened to the furniture frame, the remaining fabric portion may be doubled over the fastened tail portion which in turn causes the cover strip portion to be folded over the fastening strip portion. In such a manner, the heads of the fasteners are physically covered by the cover strip portion so as to prevent contact with the overlaid fabric. As such, rubbing of the fabric against the fastener heads is prevented so as to thereby preclude (or at least substantially minimize) fabric abrasion and wear.

Upholstery fabric tack strips

An upholstery tack strip includes a thermoplastic sleeve and a metal ribbon embedded within the sleeve. The sleeve itself includes a plurality of removed material sections forming opposed pairs of sleeve windows, while the metal ribbon integrally includes nail sections which protrude outwardly from the tack strip through respective ones of the sleeve windows. Most preferably, the sleeve is extrusion-coated onto the metal ribbon stock using a cross-head die. The thus-coated metal strip preform may then be transferred to downstream fabrication operations whereby the sleeve windows and nail portions are formed. Since the nail portions protrude outwardly from the tack strip through the sleeve windows, relative lengthwise slippage between the metal ribbon stock and the sleeve is prevented.

Apparatus for forming foldable plastic products (e.g., chair mats) includes a forming station for forming thermoplastic material into a shaped body, and a slitting station for slitting the shaped body to form a slit having first and second slit segments which establish a flexible hinge to allow adjacent sections of said shaped body laterally of said slit to be folded into juxtaposed relationship with one another. The slitting station employs an especially configured blade that has portions respectively corresponding to the first and second slit segments so that the slit segments may be simultaneously formed in the shaped body.

Apparatus for forming foldable plastic products

A method is disclosed for making plastic products that enables adjacent portions thereof to be easily folded into juxtaposed relationship. A hinge is formed by utilizing an angled or curved cutting tool to create a continuous slit which in a preferred configuration (when viewed in profile) is generally L-shaped so that it extends from one surface of the product to a first location that is within the products' body and then extends therein from the first location to a second location also within the thickness of the body. The slit opens onto the one surface and thereby forms a flexible bridge integral with those portions of the product adjacent thereto, the bridge permitting such adjacent portions to be flexibly folded into juxtaposed relationship.

Method for making foldable plastic products

An improved plastic product that enables adjacent portions thereof to be easily folded into juxtaposed relationship. The product has at least one elongated hinge that extends between sides of the product in along the length and/or the width thereof. The hinge is formed by utilizing an angled or curved cutting tool to create a continuous slit which in a preferred configuration (when viewed in profile) is generally L-shaped so that it extends from one surface of the product to a first location that is within the products' body and then extends therein from the first location to a second location also within the thickness of the body. A trash bag liner retaining and air venting device is attachable to a trash receptacle. The device includes a rim adapted to being removably secured to a top of a trash receptacle such that an upper region of a flexible liner is drapable thereover. A locking ring is provided which receives the rim in nested relationship and thus captures the liner therebetween. Preferably, an integral hinge joins the rim and the locking ring so that the latter is capable of pivotal movements relative to the former. Thus, the locking ring and the rim are movable into and out of engagement with one another to respectively positionally capture and release the liner.
