A toggle assembly includes a first joint member having a first lug and a second lug, a second joint member, and a third joint member. The second joint member has a first arm that receives a first rolling element, a second arm that receives a second rolling element, a third arm, and a fourth arm. The second joint member is pivotally connected to the first joint member via a first pin that extends through the first lug, the first rolling element, the second rolling element, and the second lug. The third joint member has a third lug and a fourth lug disposed opposite the third lug. The third joint member is pivotally connected to the second joint member via a cross rod pin that extends through the third lug, the third arm and the fourth arm.

Ejection jack having a toggle assembly

A ram air turbine system includes a ram air turbine and an actuator to move the ram air turbine between a stowed position and a deployed position. The actuator is in fluid communication with an aircraft hydraulic system configured to return the ram air turbine to the stowed position from the deployed position during operation of the aircraft utilizing hydraulic fluid pressure from the aircraft hydraulic system. A method of operating a ram air turbine system includes slowing or stopping rotation of the ram air turbine during flight of the aircraft, directing hydraulic fluid pressure from an aircraft hydraulic system to a ram air turbine actuator to urge movement of the actuator from a deployed position to a stowed position and urging movement of the ram air turbine from a deployed position to a stowed position via movement of the actuator from the deployed position to the stowed position.

A hydraulic damping device includes a housing defining a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, a damping plate disposed within the housing, the damping plate including a plurality of damping holes defined therethrough and positioned to allow fluid communication between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet, and a blocking member disposed within the housing and configured to rotate relative to the damping plate to progressively block the damping holes.

Locking mechanisms for ram air turbine actuators

A pump system includes an actuator which can be retracted by a fluid in the pump system. Also included is a pump with a first drive coupling and a rotational power device with a second drive coupling. The second drive coupling is configured to removably mate with the first drive coupling for powering the pump. A spool valve that is spring loaded and in fluid connection with the pump when the spool valve is in a stow position is also included. In addition, the pump system includes both a relief valve and a reservoir both in fluid connection with the actuator.

Remote power source pump system

A ram air turbine (RAT) stowing system includes a closed loop hydraulic circuit configured to hold a quantity of a hydraulic fluid to be utilized only by the RAT stowing system and a RAT actuator disposed in fluid communication with the closed loop hydraulic circuit. A pump system is connected to the hydraulic circuit to selectively pump the hydraulic fluid to a stow reservoir portion of the RAT actuator to move the RAT actuator from a deployed position to a stowed position. A control valve is connected to the hydraulic circuit between the RAT actuator and the pump to selectively allow the hydraulic fluid to be drained from the stow reservoir portion of the RAT actuator in a drain state and to allow the hydraulic fluid to be pumped into the stow reservoir portion of the RAT actuator in a pump state.

Ram air turbine stowing system

A ram air turbine system includes an actuator having a threaded portion, a rod having a threaded region at or near one end and an eyelet at an opposite end, and a bushing. The bushing has a first thread engaged with the threaded portion of the actuator, and a second thread engaged with the threaded region of the rod, such that an actuation force can be transmitted between the actuator and the rod through the bushing. The first and second threads of the bushing have different pitches.

RAT actuator fine adjustment assembly

A ram air turbine actuator includes a piston rod arranged in a cylinder. The cylinder and piston rod are configured to move longitudinally relative to one another between retracted and deployed positions. An annular space provided between the cylinder and piston rod, and a fluid flow regulating feature is provided in the piston rod. The fluid flow regulating feature is progressively blocked from the retracted position to the deployed position. The RAT actuator is deployed by initiating a deploy sequence and reducing a volume of an annular space. Fluid flow is forced from the annular space through a flow regulating feature to a cavity. The size of the flow regulating feature reduces to damp the actuator during the deploy sequence.

Electromechanical actuator damping arrangement for ram air turbine

A latch assembly for a RAT actuator includes a lever block having spaced apart first and second lateral walls interconnected to one another by a bridge wall. The first and second lateral walls provide a pivot axis at one end. A latch pin is at another end opposite the one end. The latch pin extends between the first and second lateral walls. A latch bearing is arranged in each of the first and second lateral walls. Each bearing receives an end of the latch pin and is configured to permit the latch pin to rotate relative to the lever block. A lever block is arranged within a housing and has first and second lateral walls interconnected to one another by a bridge wall. A solenoid is configured to push the lever block about the pivot axis during a deploy sequence.

Electromechanical actuator and latch assembly for ram air turbine

An actuator for a ram air turbine includes a housing that supports a piston rod arranged in a cylinder. The piston rod and the cylinder are slideably moveable relative to one another between retracted and deployed positions. A can surrounds the cylinder and is loosely fixed relative to the housing. The can is permitted to pivot relative to the housing and cylinder relative to the cylinder in a radial direction during operation. In operation, the ram air turbine is deployed by initiating a deploy sequence. The piston rod and the cylinder are extended relative to one another to the deployed position. The method includes pivoting a can that surrounds the cylinder and the piston rod.

Electromechanical actuator lubrication system for ram air turbine

An example release mechanism for an ejection jack includes a locking mechanism disposed about an axis. A pivotable first leg is connected to a pivotable second leg by a crossbar. A blocking pin is rotatably connected to the first leg and the second leg such that the locking mechanism abuts the blocking pin. A first solenoid includes a first rod abutting one of the first leg or the second leg. The first rod extends a first distance perpendicular to the axis and is configured to exert a first force to push the first leg and second leg away from the solenoid. The first leg and second leg are configured to pivot away from the first solenoid such that the blocking pin no longer abuts the locking mechanism.

Ejection jack release mechanism

An actuator for a ram air turbine system includes a lock bolt having a multiple circumferentially arranged lateral supports. A piston rod supports multiple up-lock wedges. Multiple rollers are supported by the lateral supports with chamfers on the rollers engaging one another and are configured to radially support the up-lock wedges in a retracted position.
