Aspects of the invention relate to a system for reducing relative movement between the outer shroud of a compressor diaphragm and the compressor shell of a turbine engine, thereby minimizing the wear and prolonging the life of such parts. Embodiments of the invention include a system for applying a preload on the outer shroud of a compressor diaphragm. The preload can be applied in the axial and/or radial directions. The preload can be applied at or proximate the joint between two shell segments, which is typically the location of the largest relative movement. In one embodiment, the preload can be achieved by providing one or more load applying members that operatively engage the outer shroud. A load applying member according to aspects of the invention includes a first portion, a second portion, and a biasing member operatively positioned therebetween. The biasing member can be a plurality of spring washers.

Wear minimization system for a compressor diaphragm

A turbine blade assembly composed of a rotor which is rotatable about a turbine axis of rotation and a plurality of turbine blades supported by the rotor, each blade having a root and the rotor being provided with a groove shaped for holding each root in a manner such that the root and groove have mutually contacting surfaces which apply a radially inwardly directed restraining force to the root, the root further having a bottom facing the turbine axis and the groove having a base which is located radially inwardly of, and faces, the root bottom. The mutually contacting surfaces of the root and the groove are pressed together by means of at least one disc spring compressed between the root bottom and the groove base.

Turbine blade assembly

A gas turbine stationary vane is provided having cooling air inserts and an inpingement plate attached to the outer shroud of the vane. The inserts extend only a short distance above their mounting surface on the outer shroud so that there is adequate access for properly welding the inserts to the outer shroud. Insert extensions are disposed in the end of each insert so as to form cooling air inlets which project above the impingement plate. The insert extensions are installed after the insert has been welded to the outer shroud so as to not interfere with access to the weld area. The insert extensions are attached to the inserts and the impingement plate by flexible seal collars, allowing the collars to form positive seals between the components.
