A water heating apparatus including a tank divided into first and second chambers, wherein water in the first and second chambers has first and second temperatures, respectively, a first outlet for supplying water from the first chamber, a first thermostat to measure the first temperature, a second thermostat to measure the second temperature, means for heating water in the second chamber, a pump having a pump inlet in fluid communication with the second chamber and a pump outlet in fluid communication with the first chamber, and a controller configured to initiate pumping of water from the second chamber to the first chamber when the first temperature is below a predetermined first value. The controller is also configured to initiate heating of water in the second chamber when the second temperature is below a predetermined second value, the second value being greater than the first value.

Water heating distribution system

This invention provides a water heater including a water storage tank, a flue, a jacket around the tank and the flue and having a top end, a top cover which extends over the tank and the flue and which closes the jacket top end, and a flue collector within the top cover and having an exhaust opening within the top cover and in communication with the flue. The water heater further includes a flue damper mechanism comprising a damper disk pivotally mounted within the flue collector exhaust opening so that the disk can pivot between a closed position closing the exhaust opening and an open position opening the exhaust opening, and drive means for pivoting the damper disk. The drive means comprises a damper actuator exterior of the top cover, a mounting tube secured to the flue collector and secured to the damper actuator, and a damper shaft within the mounting tube and extending between the damper actuator and the damper disk.

A water heater comprising a tank defining a water chamber and having an outer surface, a spud mounted on the outer surface, a jacket surrounding the tank and having an inner surface spaced from the tank outer surface, an opening aligned with the spud, a margin around the opening and converging inwardly toward the tank, insulating material between the tank and the jacket, and a fitting threaded into the spud and having a tapered outer surface which engages the margin to form a seal against the insulating material.

Apparatus for sealing a foam insulated water heater

A water heater comprising a tank for holding water, a jacket surrounding the tank, foam insulation between the tank and the jacket, a heating element for heating water in the tank, and a thermostat mounted on the tank for controlling the heating element in response to the temperature of water in the tank. The thermostat includes electrically active terminals, leadwires connected to the terminals, an electric circuit reset, and a temperature adjustment dial. The water heater also comprises a protective shield for covering the terminal and preventing foam contact with the terminal. The shield includes a face portion covering the thermostat in spaced relation to the tank. The face portion comprises a first access port for providing operator access to the circuit reset cutoff, and a second access port spaced from the first access port for providing operator access to the temperature adjustment dial. The shield also includes sidewall portions extending between the face portion and the tank. Each sidewall portion has a rearward tapered surface sealingly engaging the tank, and a leadwire access port which provides an opening for routing a leadwire and which provides strain relief for the leadwire.

A water heater comprising a tank which is adapted to contain water and which has an outer surface, a spud mounted on the outer surface of the tank, a jacket surrounding the tank, having an inner surface spaced from the outer surface of the tank, and having therein an opening aligned with the spud, a member connected to the spud, insulating material between the tank and the jacket, and an annular seal for sealing the opening from the insulating material, the seal surrounding the member, having a radially inner portion captured between the member and the spud, and having a radially outer portion engaging the inner surface of the jacket.

A hot water heater (12) has a modified dip tube (70) with a heat trap (80, 78, 82, 74) therein. The cold water inlet pipe (90) is threaded directly into a spud (26) on the tank without an extra fitting (32) otherwise required for a heat trap, the heat trap function being performed in the dip tube (70) and eliminating the cost of a separate external heat trap fitting otherwise required for such function. The travel stroke of the heat trap sealing ball (80) is located entirely within the storage tank (14) to reduce noise caused by movement of the ball (80).
