A cordless telephone system provides home security. Each handset associated with the cordless telephone system detects an event, such as a noise level that exceeds a threshold noise level, smoke, carbon monoxide, intrusion or moisture level. If an event is detected the system presents a message from the base unit to an alert telephone number of the home owner that provides notification of the event.

Cordless phone system with integrated alarm and remote monitoring capability

A cordless telephone system provides home security. Each handset associated with the cordless telephone system detects an event, such as a noise level that exceeds a threshold noise level, smoke, carbon monoxide, intrusion or moisture level. If an event is detected the system initiates a telephone call through the base unit to an alert telephone number. When the telephone call to the alert telephone number is established, a message is played to provide notification of the event.

A modem adapter is provided to adapt a modem to operate with a telephone system. The modem adapter includes a conductor detector, a voltage generator, and a dial-tone generator. The conductor detector is configured to detect live conductors on a telephone jack. The voltage generator is configured to generate an on-hook line voltage comparable to that normally expected by the modem and to deliver the generated on-hook line voltage to the modem. The dial-tone generator is configured to generate and deliver to the modem a first dial tone different from the second dial tone delivered by a telephone system to which the modem is attempting communication. A method for adapting a modem to a telephone system is also provided.

System and method for universal adaptation of a PSTN modem

A method for integrating cordless telephony, data network, and broadband connection is disclosed. Preferred embodiments of the invention are configured to provide one or more of the following tasks: (1) support voice over a WLAN with QoS with enhanced power consumption and range; (2) provide for both broadband telephony and PSTN access; (3) utilize a broadband connection to deliver content to a cordless handset; and (4) utilize a wired data terminal to provide enhanced telephony functions.

Systems and methods are described for downloading audio signals into a digital telephone to update and replace a conventional ringer tone. The source of the audio signal can be from any analog audio sound source, such as a radio, PC sound card, MP3 player, CD or DVD player, etc. The audio signal can be fed through an audio cable into a handset headset jack that is already available in most digital telephones, or into a specialized audio jack incorporated into the base (of a cordless telephone). The audio signal may be comprised of a song or speech. The audio signal can be stored in a specialized memory for storing audio signals without requiring encoding the signal prior to storage, or it can be stored in any conventional memory arrangement. For a cordless telephone, the audio signal may be stored in the handset or in the base unit.

Method and system for downloading audio samples for personalized telephone ring tones

Text messages are communicated between a personal computer and a cordless device having a base unit and a handset. Text messages sent from the personal computer to the handset are displayed on a text screen on the handset. Text message sent from the handset to the personal computer are displayed on a text window on the personal computer. Messages can be passed from the personal computer to a base unit of the cordless device using an analog or a digital interface. In addition, stereo music is transmitted from a stereo source to the handset through the base unit.

Systems and methods for wireless communications between a cellular telephone and a landline telephone. A system includes a cellular telephone in communication with a cordless telephone base station. The cordless telephone base station includes a BLUETOOTH radio transceiver, and the cellular telephone includes a BLUETOOTH radio transceiver, so that the cellular telephone can communicate with the base station using BLUETOOTH communications. The cordless telephone base station includes a cordless radio transceiver, and a cordless handset that includes a cordless radio transceivers. The cordless handset can communicate with the cordless telephone base station using cordless radio frequency communications. The BLUETOOTH radio transceiver and the cordless radio transceiver of the cordless telephone base station are coupled so that the cordless handsets can communicate with the cellular telephone.

Systems and methods for exchanging data and audio between cellular telephones and landline telephones

A device configured to draw current from one of a PSTN source and a battery source depending on a mode of operation of the device is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the device includes a circuit that is configured to draw current from the PSTN source during a first condition and from the battery source during a second condition. Preferably, the circuit is defaulted to draw current from the battery source. The first condition can be associated with an off-hook condition. The second condition can be associated with an on-hook condition.

Hybrid telephony device

A system and method for quickly retrieving a telephone number is disclosed. The system includes an input device for inputting a dial string from a user, a storage device for storing a plurality of telephone numbers, a display device for displaying the dial string, and a processor for matching the dial string with telephone numbers stored in the storage device. The dial string includes one or more digits. The processor matches the one or more digits with telephone numbers stored in the storage device and retrieves the telephone numbers. Each of the retrieved telephone number includes all digits of the dial string. The retrieved telephone numbers are then displayed on the display device. After the user selects one of the displayed telephone numbers, the system performs an action with the telephone number. For example, the system can be configured to dial the selected telephone number.

System and method for retrieving telephone numbers

A method uses a rack and gear system for retracting an antenna when a wireless device is opened. Particularly, sliding a cover to open the device moves first and second sliding racks attached on opposite sides of the sliding cover. The racks drive a first gear and a second gear, respectively. The first gear drives an antenna rack. An antenna is attached to the antenna rack, such that driving an antenna rack extends or retracts the cover.

System and method for wireless device

An audio signal expander apparatus for integration into a satellite receiver for recovering audio signal transmissions carried by satellite services utilizing compressed audio signal transmission processing wherein the incoming audio signal is expanded by a ratio which varies with both the audio signal amplitude and audio signal frequency. The audio signal passes first through a low-pass filter and then through a frequency selective negative feedback circuit the output of which is filtered and de-emphasized. In addition, the level of the output audio signal may be varied by a level control adjustment.
