A funerary article comprises a container having a pair of side wide walls, a pair of end walls and a bottom wall. The container is adapted to contain remains of a deceased. A lid is closeable upon the container. The container has external surfaces defining an exterior of the container. A light source is mounted to the container exterior. The funerary article can be a casket or a cremation urn.

A casket comprises a shell having a pair of opposed side walls, a pair of opposed end walls, and an upwardly facing flange, a lid closeable upon the edge of the shell, and a cover securable to the shell and concealing the flange when the lid is open, the cover being at least semi-rigid, the cover having a one-piece right angle section and a straight section.

A method of making a lid for a casket comprises providing tooling configured to produce a one-piece, unitary casket lid having a crown, a pie, a rim and a header, providing settable material from which to mold the lid, molding the settable material with the tooling, permitting the settable material to set thereby producing a one-piece, unitary casket lid having a crown, a pie, a rim and a header, and adhesively applying a wood veneer sheet to at least a portion of the lid. The veneer sheet can be applied with either a membrane press or a profile wrapping machine.

Casket lid and method of making same

The present invention is an ornamental light assembly for a casket. The casket has a pair of opposed side walls and a pair of opposed end walls. The light assembly comprises a back plate adapted to be mounted to at least one of the walls of the casket shell. A base member having a top and bottom wall and at least one side wall connecting the top and bottom wall is coupled to the back plate. The top wall of the base member includes a light source, such as a light bulb, and a translucent ornament overlying the light source such that the light emitted from the light source is transmitted through the translucent ornament. The base member can include at least one battery for powering the light source and an electrical switch for energizing the light source.
