The invention provides an analgesic cream containing ibuprofen with superior skin penetration properties obtained in part by maintaining a pH of 4 to 7.2 such that the ibuprofen is suspended in substantially solid crystalline form.

Analgesic compositions

A water-soluble salt of ibuprofen with meglumine (N-methylglucamine) is prepared, isolate and characterized and pharmaceutical preparations containing the salt for oral administration are described which are clear, pleasant tasting liquids.

Acid addition salt of ibuprofen and meglumine

Palatable ibuprofen aqueous base solutions are described which contain dissolved therein ibuprofen and hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin, which form an inclusion complex, and sweeteners to mask the sour taste common to organic acids.

Palatable ibuprofen solutions

A liquid water base ibuprofen composition for oral administration is described, the ibuprofen being maintained in suspension by a combination of primary suspending agents and being taste masked by primary taste masking agents, the composition also containing a buffer acid to adjust the pH of the composition to between 1.5 and up to about 3.5 and to provide a buffer capacity within the range of 0.03 to 0.05 between the initial pH and a pH which is 1.0 pH unit higher than the initial pH.
