A crimping tool for a sealing washer includes a cylindrical outer housing having a bore, a cylindrical inner housing disposed within the bore and fixed relative to the outer housing and a crimping arm pivotally mounted to the inner housing. The crimping tool also includes a drive mechanism for moving the outer housing relative to the inner housing to urge the crimping arm towards the inner housing to deform an object to be crimped.

An hydraulic brake hose such as for automotive applications is formed of an EPDM elastomer core tube and one or more additional tube layers, each formed of such terpolymer compounded without processing oils and one or more interlying reinforcing layers of nonwater-base adhesive coated polyvinyl alcohol fibers. The absence of water from the reinforcing fibers provides thennal stability to the reinforcing layers, and the absence of compounding oil from the EPDM terpolymers also provides high temperature properties for the hose.

In a preferred embodiment a hydraulic brake hose comprises a polychloroprene inner tube, a reinforcing braid of twisted glass fiber yarn around the tube, a styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber cushion layer over the glass braid, a second reinforcing braid of nylon fiber yarn over the cushion layer and a cover layer of polychloroprene rubber.

This invention comprises a method for manufacturing elastomeric high pressure hose having reinforcement in the form of braided or spiral wrapped textile yarns between extruded inner and outer elastomeric layers. The method includes the steps of extruding the inner elastomeric layer over a long flexible mandrel up to about 1000 ft in length coextensively therewith, then progressively freezing portions of the layer and braiding or spiral wrapping a textile reinforcement thereover. The layer is frozen to prevent extrusion of the inner layer during the braiding. Thereafter additional elastomeric and textile layers are applied and the elastomers are vulcanized in an elongated continuous vulcanizer.
