Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a surgical cassette configured to engage a first plurality of rollers of a first roller head. The cassette comprises a face coupled to a first substrate, the face being at a first angle with respect to the first roller head's axis of rotation and a wall of first substrate being at a second angle with respect to the axis of rotation, wherein the first angle is different from the second angle. The cassette also comprises a first sheet positioned on the wall's surface, wherein the first sheet and the wall form first one or more pump segments configured to engage the first plurality of rollers in a position where force applied by each one of the first plurality of rollers on the first one or more pump segments has a direction that is not parallel to the first roller head's axis of rotation.

Various arrangements of fluidics systems are disclosed. In one arrangement, an aspiration circuit for a fluidics system is disclosed that selectively controls aspiration. The aspiration circuit comprises an aspiration line operatively connected to a surgical instrument, an aspiration exhaust line operatively connected to a waste receptacle; an aspiration vent line connected at a first end to the aspiration line; and a selectively variable vent valve operatively connected to the aspiration vent line. The variable vent valve may be selectively moved to vary aspiration pressure within the aspiration line. Other fluidics systems are disclosed that include a selectively positionable irrigation valve that may also be incorporated into a fluidics system that includes a variable vent valve.

Selectively moveable valve elements for aspiration and irrigation circuits

Systems and methods for monitoring for an occlusion in an aspiration line during an ophthalmic surgical procedure. An ophthalmic surgical system may include a first aspiration pump located in a handpiece, a second aspiration pump located away from the handpiece such as in a console, and a pressure sensor located between the first aspiration pump and the second aspiration pump. The pressure sensor is adapted to monitor for an occlusion in the aspiration line upstream of the first aspiration pump. The second aspiration pump may be operated at the same flow rate as the first aspiration pump and/or to maintain a constant pressure between the second aspiration pump and the first aspiration pump. Systems and methods as disclosed allow for a handpiece pump located close to the working tip while providing reliable occlusion detection with a pressure sensor located away from the handpiece.

Aspiration systems and methods with multiple pumps and pressure sensor

A surgical system comprises a pressurized irrigation fluid source; an irrigation line fluidly coupled to the pressurized irrigation fluid source; a hand piece fluidly coupled to the irrigation line; and a controller for controlling the pressurized irrigation fluid source. The controller controls the pressurized irrigation fluid source based on an estimated flow value modified by a compensation factor.

A surgical system comprises a pressurized irrigation fluid source; an irrigation line fluidly coupled to the pressurized irrigation fluid source; a hand piece fluidly coupled to the irrigation line; an irrigation pressure sensor located at or along the pressurized irrigation fluid source or irrigation line; and a controller for controlling the pressurized irrigation fluid source. The controller controls the pressurized irrigation fluid source based on a reading from the irrigation pressure sensor and an estimated flow value modified by a compensation factor.

Apparatuses, systems, and method for hydraulic pumps are disclosed. Particularly, hydraulic pumps for ophthalmic surgical procedures are disclosed. Hydraulic pumps within the scope of the disclosure may include an aspiration pump. An example aspiration pump may include first and second hydraulic cylinders and a plurality of one-way valves that are operable to permit fluid flow into a first part of a hydraulic cylinder responsive to movement of a piston within the hydraulic cylinder in a first direction and operable to permit fluid to flow out of the hydraulic cylinder responsive to movement of the piston in a second direction opposite the first direction. The aspiration pump may be attached to a housing of a hand piece, or a portion of the aspiration pump may be received into the housing of the hand piece.

Hydraulic pump for ophthalmic surgery

A surgical system comprises a hand piece, an irrigation conduit in fluid communication with the hand piece to carry fluid toward a surgical site, an aspiration conduit in fluid communication with the hand piece to carry fluid away from the surgical site, a pump interfacing with the aspiration conduit, the pump to create a vacuum pressure in the aspiration conduit to draw fluid through the aspiration conduit, a vacuum relief valve in fluid communication with the aspiration conduit to relieve the vacuum pressure in the aspiration conduit, a pressure sensor to detect a pressure associated with the surgical site, a controller in communication with the vacuum relief valve and the pressure sensor to control the vacuum relief valve to decrease the vacuum pressure in the aspiration conduit when the pressure detected by the pressure sensor is less than a first pressure threshold.

A hydraulically-driven Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) insertion tool includes a body, a chamber within the body, a first fluid port providing fluid communication into the chamber, a piston positioned within the chamber and arranged to move within the chamber in response to the introduction or removal of fluid from the chamber, and an elongated member. The elongated member includes a distal end comprising an intra-ocular lens interface and a proximal end connected to the piston such that movement of the piston within the chamber causes corresponding movement of the elongated member.

An ophthalmic surgical hand piece comprises a driver coupled to a horn. The horn is coupled to a needle. An aspiration pump is integral with the hand piece and is located close to the needle. A rigid length of aspiration line is located between the aspiration pump and the needle. An optional pressure sensor is located between the aspiration pump and the needle as well.

Phacoemulsification hand piece with integrated aspiration pump

A roller assembly comprises a central section with a hub; a plurality of arms coupled to the central section, each arm having a radial section, an arcuate section, and a bent section; and a plurality of rollers, one roller coupled to the bent section of each arm. The arms may be flexible such that the rollers are capable of moving with respect to the central section when the arms flex. The rolling surface of the rollers is arranged to engage a polymer sheet or flexible tubing throughout travel of the arms.
