Example access devices, treatment devices, and kits useful in performing treatment under magnetic resonance imaging and related methods are described. An example access device includes an elongate tubular member formed of an MRI compatible material and moveable between a first, unexpanded configuration and a second, expanded configuration. The elongate tubular member has a central lengthwise axis, a proximal end, a distal end, an axial length, and a main body that defines a circumferential wall, a lumen, a proximal opening, a distal opening, and a main body opening. The main body opening is arranged in a spiral relative to the lengthwise axis and extends circumferentially along the circumferential wall. The main body opening extends along the entire axial length of the elongate tubular member from the proximal end to the distal end.

Access devices, treatment devices, and kits useful for performing treatment under magnetic resonance imaging and related methods

The disclosure relates to medical devices and methods of assembling medical devices, such as MRI-compatible interventional wireguides. An example of a wireguide includes a series of individual segments, a plurality of connectors, and a plurality of spacers. Each segment in the series of individual segments has a first end and a second end. Each connector of the plurality of connectors joins adjacent segments in the series of individual segments to one another such that a first end of a first segment and a second end of a second segment in the series of individual segments are attached to a connector of the plurality of connectors. A spacer of the plurality of spacers is disposed between each pair of adjacent segments in the series of individual segments. Each of the segments in the series of individual segments is electrically insulated from an adjacent segment in the series of individual segments.

MRI compatible interventional wireguide

A catheter hub for use with a medical device and a catheter, the hub includes a hub body defining a fluid passageway in communication with a first aperture. Optionally, the hub body defines a second aperture that intersects the first aperture. The hub body attaches to the catheter wherein the fluid passageway and the catheter are aligned for fluid flow therethrough. The first aperture extends from and communicates with the fluid passageway to an exterior surface of the hub body and the first aperture configured to receive the medical device. The second aperture extends from and communicates with the first aperture and the exterior surface. A sealing element is sized for and positioned in either the first or the second apertures. The sealing element is configured to receive the medical device and seal both of the first and the second apertures.

The present embodiments provide systems and methods for treating a medical condition. In one embodiment, the system comprises a stent having proximal and distal regions, and further having a delivery state and an expanded state. A therapeutic agent is disposed on a segment of the stent. The stent is disposed around an exterior surface of a core assembly in the delivery state. A coupling assembly releasably secures the proximal region of the stent to the exterior surface of the core assembly. The coupling assembly secures the stent to the core assembly for a predetermined period while the stent is in the expanded state and during release of the therapeutic agent at a target site. The coupling assembly further enables the stent to be disengaged from the core assembly and deployed in a bodily passageway.

Detachable and retrievable stents for therapeutic agent delivery

Disclosed herein is a hybrid stent having a balloon-expandable portion joined to a self-expanding portion. The hybrid stent is capable of withstanding the forces applied by delivery. Delivery systems for deploying a hybrid stent are described, as are methods of using such delivery systems.

Hybrid stent and delivery system

A hemostatic valve assembly is disclosed. The assembly comprises a housing having a sidewall that tapers radially inwardly towards the housing distal end. A valve member having an open proximal end and a tapered distal end with an orifice formed therein is disposed within the housing chamber. The valve member is deformable between a closed configuration in which the orifice is substantially closed and an open configuration in which the orifice is open. A biasing member disposed proximal to the valve member is moveable between a longitudinally compressed condition and a longitudinally expanded condition. When in an expanded condition, the biasing member pushes the valve member longitudinally and against the tapered sidewall of the housing. The tapered sidewall of the housing urges the distal end of the valve member radially inwardly, thus urging the orifice to the substantially closed configuration.

Hemostatic valve system

An indwelling stent is provided. The stent includes a distal member that extends between a distal end portion and a proximal end portion and defines a lumen therethrough, and a proximal member that extends between a distal end portion and a proximal end portion and defines a lumen therethrough, wherein the distal member and the proximal member collectively define the stent, and wherein the distal and proximal members are discrete components and are telescopingly arranged with the distal end portion of the proximal member extending over an outer surface of the distal member.

The present invention relates to methods of making a prosthesis or a stent with a smooth covering. The method includes providing an elastomeric tube including an inner diameter and an outer diameter, positioning the elastomeric tube in a tube expander including a vacuum, expanding the inner diameter and the outer diameters of the elastomeric tube by applying the vacuum, providing a mandrel, positioning an inner covering over the mandrel, positioning a stent over the inner covering, positioning an outer covering over the stent to form a covered stent, positioning the mandrel and the covered stent in the tube expander, releasing the vacuum, removing the elastomeric tube, the covered stent, and the mandrel form the tube expander, applying pressure and heat to the elastomeric tube, the covered stent, and the mandrel, removing the elastomeric tube, the covered stent, and the mandrel from the pressure and the heat, removing the elastomeric tube from the covered stent, and removing the mandrel from the covered stent.

Methods of making a prosthesis with a smooth covering

A method of sealing a trachea is provided that includes inserting a tracheal tube having an inflatable cuff made of a compliant material into a trachea. The method includes inflating the inflatable cuff with a fluid to a first pressure that exceeds a second pressure necessary to create a seal between the inflatable cuff and the tracheal wall. The method includes deflating the inflatable cuff by releasing a first pressure to allow the fluid to flow out of the inflatable cuff without applying vacuum pressure to the fluid while evaluating a rate of change of pressure of the fluid in the inflatable cuff. The method includes identifying a variance in the rate of change of pressure corresponding to a third pressure at which the inflatable cuff separates from the tracheal wall, determining the second pressure by analyzing the third pressure, and reinflating the inflatable cuff to the second pressure.

Low maintenance endotracheal tube device and method for preventing ventilator associated pneumonia and tracheal ischemia

A dilator may include a leading portion that includes a leading end coupled to a leading stem. The dilator may further include a trailing portion that includes a trailing end coupled to a trailing shaft. The dilator may also include a segmented body disposed between the leading end and the trailing end. The segmented body may include a plurality of segments disposed circumferentially around the leading stem. The leading stem may extend through a passageway of the segmented body, an opening of the trailing end and a channel of the trailing shaft. The leading stem and the trailing shaft may be configured to move longitudinally relative to one another to radially outwardly expand the segmented body.

Mechanical dilator

Described are devices, methods and systems for securing sutures external to the body. In certain aspects, a suture securement device includes a housing member defining an internal cavity and a wedge member moveable within the cavity between a suture-release position to a suture-retention position. The wedge member defines a suture aperture extending therethrough. At the suture-retention position, the housing member is configured to compress the wedge member to clamp the suture, thereby substantially preventing the suture from moving within the aperture.
