An automated external defibrillator (AED) system includes shock generating electronics, a battery configured for providing power to the shock generating electronics, power management circuitry configured for controlling the shock generating electronics and the battery, and a controller configured for controlling the power management circuitry. The AED system is housed in a small enclosure that provides a hand-carryable device, and the enclosure includes an externally mounted clip that enables the device to be wearable on a user's belt. Cardiac pads are stored separately and are plugged into the device to automatically power on the device. An associated AED method is designed for a trained user to operate the AED system.

Automated external defibrillator

A self-contained automated external defibrillator (SCAED) system includes an AED operations block for controlling shock generation and administration, including pads for attachment to a patient, an electrocardiogram monitoring circuitry for monitoring patient heartbeat, shock generating electronics for generating electrical shock signal to be applied to the patient through the pads, a battery for supplying power to the AED operations block, a power management block for managing power consumption by the shock generating electronics and monitoring power status of the battery, a memory, a user-interface block for providing use instructions and receiving user input, and a controller for regulating the ECG monitoring circuitry, shock generating electronics, and the power management block. The SCAED system also includes a communications block for communicating with an external system separate from the SCAED system. The SCAED system further includes a security block for regulating data transfer between the AED operations block and the communications block.

Self-contained, connected automated external defibrillator systems and methods of use

The present invention relates to a device, and software and methodology associated with a portable Automated External Defibrillator ('AED'). The portable AED works with a mobile device and software, and includes two or more cardiac pads, a battery pack, and specialized capacitor. When connected to a patient in cardiac arrest, the AED contacts Emergency Medical Services, and records patient information to be transmitted for evaluation by medical providers. The AED is able to analyze cardiac rhythms, suggests administering one or more shocks to the patient in appropriate cardiac arrhythmia, and guides a user on proper CPR technique, if enabled. The AED software can alert other personnel via a mobile device app.
