A dialyzer composed of: first and second dialyzation chambers, and an intermediate chamber interposed between the first and second dialyzation chambers. Each of the chambers has a respective one of a blood inlet or outlet and a dialysate inlet or outlet arranged so that blood and dialysate flow in counter-current to one another in both chambers. The intermediate chamber is connected to form a dialysate-free blood flow passage between the blood chambers and is configured to maintain a substantially uniform blood flow.

Double fiber bundle dialyzer

A sanitizing device for sanitizing a chestpiece of a stethoscope connected to at least one earpiece by a tube, the sanitizing device being composed of: a housing composed of two housing halves and a hinge assembly connecting the housing halves together to permit relative pivotal movement between the housing halves between a closed state in which the housing halves enclose a closed space, and an open state; and a source of sanitizing radiation disposed to irradiate the closed space. The housing is provided with an opening for receiving the tube; the opening is composed of two opening portions each formed in a respective housing half; and the hinge assembly is composed of two hinge portions each forming part of a respective housing half, the hinge portions being separable from one another to allow the chestpiece to be placed in the closed space.

Stethoscope sanitizing device

An appliance for disinfecting hand-held devices each having a surface that is contacted manually when the device is in use, composed of: a source of disinfecting radiation; and a conveyer system operative to convey the devices past the source with the top and/or bottom surfaces of each device facing the source, wherein the conveyor system is composed of a plurality of hollow, transparent rollers; and the source of disinfecting radiation includes a plurality of lamps, each housed in a respective one of the transparent rollers.

Appliance for disinfecting hand-held devices

A dialyzer composed of: first and second dialyzation chambers, and an intermediate chamber interposed between the first and second dialyzation chambers. Each dialyzation chamber has opposed first and second ends and contains a filter member that separates the chamber into a blood compartment and a dialysate compartment. Each of the compartments extends between first and second ends. Each of the chambers has a respective one of a blood inlet or outlet and a dialysate inlet or outlet arranged so that blood and dialysate flow in counter-current to one another in both chambers. The intermediate chamber is connected to form a dialysate-free blood flow passage between the blood compartments.

A switch valve for use in an extracorporeal blood flow circuit comprises a valve housing having a chamber, four openings communicating with the chamber, and a valve member located in the valve chamber. A first opening is to be connected to a patient via an arterial cannula, a second opening is to be connected to a patient via an venous cannula, a third opening is to be connected to a first inlet/outlet of a blood treatment device, and a fourth opening is to be connected to a second inlet/outlet of a blood treatment device. The valve member is movable within the valve housing to fluidly connect the first opening to either the third or the fourth opening and to fluidly connect the second opening to either the third or the fourth opening. The width of the valve member is smaller than a peripheral dimension of the openings.

Method and apparatus for calculating fluid flow rate

A dialyzer header cleaning device composed of: a connecting member for connecting the device to the header, the connecting member having a longitudinal passage with a longitudinal axis; and a flow directing member having first and second opposed ends and a fluid passage extending between a fluid inlet at the first end and a fluid outlet at the second end. The flow directing member has a portion that extends from the second end toward the first end and is held in the longitudinal passage. The flow directing member is manually rotatable about the longitudinal axis relative to the connecting member and is manually movable along the longitudinal axis relative to the connecting member. The fluid outlet of the flow directing member is constructed to eject at least one liquid stream in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis when fluid is supplied to the fluid inlet.

Manual dialyzer header cleaning device

An apparatus and method for use in blood dialysis. The apparatus includes: two dialyzers each containing a semipermeable membrane that divides the dialyzer into a blood compartment and a dialysate compartment; a blood compartment connecting line connecting the blood compartments of the dialyzers together in series; blood connecting lines for connecting the blood compartments to the vascular system of a patient; a dialysate compartment connecting unit connecting the dialysate compartments of the dialyzers together in series; and dialysate connecting lines for connecting the dialysate compartments to a dialysis machine. The dialysate compartment connecting unit includes an adjustable flow varying device for controllably setting the rate of the flow of dialysate through the connecting unit.

Hemodialysis system

A dialyzer header cleaning device composed of: a housing having two opposed ends and delimiting a passage that extends in a flow direction between the two ends; a connecting element disposed at a first end of the housing for connection to the header; and a flow directing element having a fluid inlet end retained in the passage and a fluid outlet end. The flow-directing element has a cleaning position in which the fluid outlet end extends into the header when the first end of the housing is connected to the header. The flow-directing element is constructed to rotate about an axis that extends in the flow direction in response to a flow of liquid between the fluid inlet end and the fluid outlet end, and to eject at least one liquid stream from the fluid outlet end in a direction transverse to the flow direction.
