An attachment system is provided for attaching furring strips to joists, each such joist having a bottom surface, an upper surface and a sidewall. The attachment system for each furring strip including a fastener having a shaft and a head, the fastener secured to the sidewall of the joist in a position vertically displaced from the bottom surface. At least one length of wire is provided with a mid-portion and two free ends, the mid-portion being looped around the fastener. The free ends are wrapped around the furring strip and fastened to each other to securely hold the furring strip to the floor joist.

Ultra-light cementitious compositions and related methods

A combined wooden frame support and ceiling system is provided, each support including upper and lower wooden chords and a wooden structure connecting the lower chord to the upper chord for weight bearing purposes. A gypsum wallboard batten strip is attached to the lower chord, and defining a ledge extending from each side of the lower chord. A single thickness of gypsum wallboard panels is used to create a ceiling attached to the support, each panel used to create the ceiling is made from a slurry composition including less than 5% by weight of Grade 4 vermiculite. Upon the support being assembled in the ceiling system, with a plurality of the supports, and having lengths of insulation supported by the ledges of the adjacent supports, the ceiling system resists charring by fire for at least one hour.

One hour fire rated wooden frame members using lightweight gypsum wallboard

A floor-ceiling assembly is provided for joined upper and lower modular construction units, including a floor surface of the upper unit using structural cement panels; a floor grid including at least one floor joist and at least one beam each having an upper surface receiving said structural cement panels, a web and a lower surface. At least one connector plate is secured to the lower surface. A ceiling framework of the lower unit has at least one ceiling beam and at least one ceiling joist secured to each other, at least one of the beams is secured to the at least one connector plate. A resilient channel is secured to an underside of the ceiling framework, and a ceiling panel is secured to the resilient channel.

Two-hour fire-rated modular floor/ceiling assembly

A wooden frame truss with enhanced fire resistance is provided and includes an upper chord extending along a longitudinal axis, a lower chord disposed below the upper chord and extending along a vertically displaced, parallel axis, a plurality of supports attached between the upper and lower chords, and a plurality of metal gusset plates securing the supports to the chords. At least one wallboard batten strip is attached to an underside of the lower chord, the strip being constructed and arranged so that the strip defines a ledge extending from each side of the lower chord.

A fire protective barrier for a residential floor and a method of its construction, the construction involving a floor supported on lightweight joists of a type susceptible to early failure once exposed to a fire existing in the space below the floor, an array of elongated steel main tees suspended below the joists, the tees being parallel and spaced apart by a nominal distance of 2', the tees having an upper hollow reinforcing bulb, a central vertical web extending downwardly from the bulb and a horizontal flange extending laterally from both sides of the web, drywall panels carried on upper faces of the flanges of adjacent pairs of tees, the drywall panels having a width of slightly less than the center-to-center distance of the tees, a majority of the panels having lengths of 8&#x2032; or more.

30-minute residential fire protection of floors

A compression post assembly for a soffit, canopy or like structure utilizing a suspended grid of inverted tees to support the soffit surface forming panels comprising a main strut and a saddle coupling, the main strut having a hollow cross-section along substantially its full length between its upper and lower ends, the saddle coupling being adapted to connect the lower end of the strut to a grid tee by receiving separate self-tapping screws, one in each of the main strut and grid tee, the saddle coupling having a pair of spaced depending legs, the legs being spread apart by a distance sufficient to straddle the bulb of a conventional grid tee and having a length sufficient to engage the upper surfaces of the lower flange of the grid tee and thereby stabilize the grid tee against pivotal motion about a horizontal axis.
