Salvia is regenerated via organogenesis using plant tissue culture techniques in a multistage culturing process. Roots can be induced from regenerated shoots, and the regenerated plants can be transferred to soil for further growth after the root system is well established.

Method for regeneration of salvia species

A DNA sequence isolated form a Nicotiana species (e.g., Nicotiana benthamiana) has SEQ ID NO: 1. The DNA sequence encodes a polypeptide having enzymatic activity for producing squalene. The polypeptide is referred to as squalene synthetase.
