A method for treating zeolite particles to remove organic templating agent therefrom is accomplished by calcining the zeolite particles in a fluidized-bed at a temperature of no more than about 600&#xb0; C. for a period of time sufficient to remove at least about 50% of the organic templating agent.

Method of treating zeolite

Ferrierite is prepared by a method that provides extremely pure crystalline material. The method consists of preparing a mixture of silica, alumina, alkali metal and pyridine of a certain composition and heating said mixture to form the crystals. The SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2 are controlled to insure preparation of high SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 ratio, high surface area and high purity ferrierite. An improved olefin skeletal isomerization catalyst is prepared from a high silica to alumina ratio, high surface area and high purity ferrierite.

Process for preparing ferrierite

The instant invention comprises a process for concurrently dealuminating and ion exchanging an acid stable sodium ion-containing zeolite by contacting the zeolite with an about 0.5 M to about 3 M nitric acid solution containing ammonium nitrate in an amount sufficient to fully exchange the sodium ions for ammonium and hydrogen ions at a temperature of at least about -10.degree. C. The instant invention also relates to the zeolites thus prepared by the instant process and catalysts prepared utilizing these zeolites.

Process for the dealumination and ion exchange of zeolites

The instant invention comprises a process for concurrently dealuminating and ion exchanging an acid stable sodium ion-containing zeolite by contacting the zeolite with an about 0.5M to about 3M nitric acid solution containing ammonium nitrate in an amount sufficient to fully exchange the sodium ions for ammonium and hydrogen ions at a temperature of at least about -10.degree. C. The instant invention also relates to the zeolites thus prepared by the instant process and catalysts prepared utilizing these zeolites.

Modified ZSM-5 type zeolite catalyst is prepared by controlled aging in a moving bed catalytic cracking unit. The modified catalyst exhibits significant olefin isomerization activity and reduced paraffin cracking activity. Hydrocarbons are cracked to products boiling in the motor fuel range, e.g., gasoline, by using the modified catalyst mixture comprising a ZSM-5 type zeolite and a conventional cracking catalyst. The ZSM-5 type zeolite is treated with partial pressure steam under conditions which increase the gasoline octane number of the product fuel without decreasing gasoline plus distillate yield. A process for changing a catalytic cracking unit's inventory from a conventional catalyst to a modified ZSM-5 type containing catalyst is also disclosed.

Octane and total yield improvement in catalytic cracking of petroleum fractions under cracking conditions can be obtained by adding to conventional cracking catalysts small amounts of an additive catalyst comprising a class of zeolites characterized by a silica to alumina mole ratio greater than 5 and a Constraint Index of 1 to 12 wherein the zeolite additive catalyst is prepared via in-situ crystallization of preformed aggregates.

Octane enhancement and total liquid product yield improvements in

Preparation of the silica and alumina matrix components of a zeolite cracking catalyst while intimately mixing at a pH of 3.0 to about 4.5 results in a selective catalyst of high density and low pore volume. The coke produced during cracking emits lower amounts of sulfur during regeneration of tha catalyst translating to reduced sulfur oxide stack emissions.
