Washing machine appliances and methods for operating washing machine appliances are provided. A washing machine appliance has a tub and a basket rotatably mounted within the tub, the basket defining a chamber for receipt of articles for washing. A method includes spraying an initial rinse volume of water into the tub, the water at a cold temperature. The method further includes rotating the articles within the tub, and spinning the articles within the tub. The method further includes spraying a final rinse volume of water into the tub, the water at a temperature greater than the cold temperature. The method further includes rotating the articles within the tub, and spinning the articles within the tub.

Washing machine appliances and methods for operating the same

A quick chill and thaw system includes an air handler mounted in a fresh food compartment of a refrigerator and drawing air from a freezer compartment for rapid chilling of items inside a slide-out pan. The air handler produces convective airflow at temperatures within the pan at temperatures above and below a temperature of the fresh food compartment to achieve both chilling and thawing of items in the pan.

Methods and apparatus for refrigerator compartment

An adaptive defrost control includes a microcomputer for controlling the initiation and termination of a defrost operation based, at least in part, on opening of the fresh food door and the freezer door. The control monitors the compressor run time and the fresh food and freezer door open times and adjusts the time until defrost accordingly. A pre-chill operation cools the freezer prior to defrosting the evaporator coils so that the defrost heat will have less of an affect on the maximum temperature after defrost, and enables the freezer compartment to be maintained at a temperature a few degrees higher than with known refrigerators, providing energy savings.

A high side portion of a refrigeration system is supported on a support member which includes a drop-in rotary compressor mounting arrangement wherein the compressor is resiliently supported in a containment area with its axis in a vertical position. The mounting arrangement includes a vibration isolating support member located in the containment area having a plurality of spring cylinders which when interposed between the compressor and support member results in a desirable bulging of the cylinder walls which provides torsional and vertical vibration isolation of the compressor.

In a hermetic compressor there is provided a resilient retainer member adapted to removably secure a terminal receptacle block assembly and a thermal overload protector relative to the compressor casing. The receptacle block assembly is adapted to engage conductor pins of an electrical terminal secured to the upper wall of the casing while the overload protector is adapted to engage the upper wall of the casing. The retainer member includes a first leg portion dimensioned to engage the thermal overload protector and a second leg portion dimensioned to engage the terminal receptacle block whereby downward pressure on the retainer member secures both the overload protector and terminal receptacle block relative to the casing.
