A variable throat jet venturi for delivering ventilation gas to a patient includes a jet nozzle, a deformable throat body arranged to receive ventilation gas output by the jet nozzle and defining a gas inlet and a gas outlet, and a housing containing the deformable throat body. The housing may define an entrainment opening which is open to ambient air and a pilot pressure port for pressurizing a plenum between an outer wall of the deformable throat body and an inner wall of the housing. A pilot pressure line may be fluidly coupled to the pilot pressure port. A controller may be programmed to energize the pilot pressure line to constrict the deformable throat body during an exhalation phase of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) therapy.

Variable throat jet venturi

A medication dispensing cabinet includes one or more lockable compartments, each containing medication, and a biometric input device at least partially disposed within and recessed below a surface of a medication dispensing cabinet. A compartment containing the medication is unlocked when an authorized biometric input is received by the biometric input device. The medication dispensing cabinet may verify that the user attempting access to the medication is authorized to dispense the medication before unlocking the compartment.

Managing medications at the bedside

Modular automated dispensing systems for dispensing secured medications in a medical environment are provided. The system includes a compact enclosure configured to be disposed in a medical treatment area without taking up valuable floor space. The system includes lockable drawers having one or more compartments for storing and dispensing medications or medical supplies. The system is unlocked by use of an access control interface internally or externally connected directly to the system, or networked to the system through a medical center network.

A smart carrier has a housing comprising one or more docking locations configured to accept a secure receptacle, a wireless interface module disposed within the housing, and a processor disposed within the housing and operatively coupled to the one or more docking locations and the wireless interface module. The processor is configured to communicate with an external device through the wireless interface module and with a secure receptacle that is mated with one of the one or more docking locations. The smart carrier also has a battery disposed within the housing and configured to provide all operational power to the processor, the wireless interface module, and the one or more docking locations.

The system and method for operating an AC respirator compressor system at substantially subnormal line voltages includes a compressor, an accumulator, a solenoid unload or dump valve used to reduce the pressure at the outlet of the compressor, a check valve located downstream from the solenoid, a relief valve, a pressure sensor, and an AC voltage sensor. In a preferred embodiment, the compressor constantly supplies compressed air to the ventilator system, monitoring the accumulator pressure and activating the solenoid unload valve as required to maintain an acceptable range of pressure in the accumulator. In another preferred embodiment the compressor system can also be operated in an intermittent, or standby mode, to supply compressed air as needed. The respirator compressor system can maintain an acceptable range of pressure in the accumulator even during periods of low AC line voltage by monitoring both the accumulator pressure and the AC line supplying voltage to the respirator compressor system, and modulating the action of the solenoid unload valve to achieve low AC voltage operation.
