A sock style filter is disclosed that incorporates the embossing of filtration media to create rigid raised geometry embodiments that prevent collapse between the upper and lower filtration media sides of the filter to maintain and ensure a flow passage of fluid inside the filter for flow to the pump or downstream system. The embossed rigid embodiments keep the filtration media from collapsing under suction and eliminates the use of secondary inserted structures; such as a plastic comb or folded net, or injection mold plastic ribs or bones onto or around the filtration media.

A fluid filtration media is disclosed that incorporates a channel depth layer to prevent collapse between media layers for increased filtration efficiency while maintaining increased filter life.

Channel depth filtration media

A filter has an elongated filter envelope with an inner pocket containing filter material and configured to receive fluid filtered by the filter envelope. The filter envelope has a bent position defined by a port portion and a loop portion, the loop portion and the port portion overlapping each other at least partially. A port is attached to the filter envelope proximate the port end and is configured to be connected to a hydraulic device and to allow fluid to be released from the pocket. The filter envelope has a periphery with a sealed rim and a slit splitting a portion of the rim so as to form a flexible retention element unitarily attached to the loop portion of the filter envelope. The retention element is positioned around one of the port and the port portion of the filter envelope to retain the filter envelope in the bent position.

An in-tank fluid filter has a filter body made of porous material and a plastic outlet port attached to the filter body for connecting the filter to a pump. A plastic retainer is integrally formed on the outlet port, the retainer comprising a tab extending in a plane perpendicular to the flow axis, the tab having a first surface proximate the pump and a second surface remote from the pump, the tab having an aperture extending from the first surface to the second surface with an effective cross-section at the first surface that is larger than the post cross-section and that is reduced toward the second surface to an effective cross-section that is smaller than the post cross-section.

In-tank fluid filter with plastic retainer

An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for a filter for filtering a dosing fluid in an exhaust aftertreatment system. The filter may comprise a dosing tank configured to contain a dosing fluid, a filter media disposed within the dosing tank, and a support structure supporting the filter media to form a pathway for a flow of dosing fluid. Beneficially, the apparatus, system, and method of the present invention reduce the cost of operation and manufacture of the SCR system.

Apparatus, system, and method for filtration of a dosing fluid in an exhaust aftertreatment system

A filtration media that incorporates a static dissipative media layer for dissipating the static charge that builds up as a fluid, such a fuel, passes through the filtration media. The filtration media includes a filter media suitable for filtering fluid, and a static dissipative media layer. The static dissipative media layer has a surface resistivity level that is sufficient to classify the media layer as static dissipative rather than conductive.

A filter includes a housing with multiple flow passages and filter elements providing volume-efficient bottom-in, top-out flow or top-in, bottom-out flow. In another embodiment, parallel filtering flow paths are provided with multiple filter elements having respective overlapped sections axially aligned, with at least one filter element having a radial extension section non-axially aligned with another of the filter elements.

A filter includes a filter element formed of filter media, and a plastic framework molded and bonded to and structurally supporting the filter media. One embodiment desirably provides a two-component assembly consisting solely of two components, namely the filter media and the plastic framework molded thereon. In a further embodiment, the plastic framework includes a resilient seal integrally molded therewith and of the same plastic material thereof, eliminating a separate component for the seal. In a further embodiment, a filter combination includes a primary filter element and a secondary filter element. In a further embodiment, a resilient integrally. molded seal is provided.

High efficiency, low restriction, cost effective filter

A filter includes first and second axially spaced end caps having filter media extending axially between the end caps and extending in a closed-loop around a perimeter defining a hollow interior communicating with an axial flow opening through one of the end caps. One or more columns extend axially in the hollow interior between the end caps and are laterally spaced from the axial flow opening and have hollow sub-interiors for receiving one or more posts extending axially thereinto from a base for mounting the filter to the base in axial compression and with a wiper seal.

A fuel filter includes features adapted to collect and drain static electrical charges occasioned by the passage of fuel therethrough. The filter includes a two-piece plastic housing having an end cap and a cylindrical portion with an end defining inlet and outlet fittings. The filter element is cylindrical and includes an outer perforated metal shell, an intermediate pleated paper filter and an inner perforated metal shell. Both metal shells are secured and electrically coupled to an electrically conductive end cap. The electrically conductive end cap is electrically and mechanically connected to a conductive, circular spring. The spring engages a ground pin which extends through the cylindrical portion of the housing and may be connected to a suitable ground to drain off static electrical charges generated by fuel flowing through the filter. The other end of the filter element is either embedded in the housing end cap or, in an alternate embodiment, a smaller end cap which is received in the housing end cap.

An in-tank fuel filter includes conductive features which provide a path to a grounded component of a motor vehicle to carry away static charges generated by passage of fuel through the filter. The filter includes a filter body and an in-situ molded conductive outlet fitting and runner assembly. The filter body includes a filtration layer having a plurality of conductive strands, threads or filaments which are in electrical contact with conductive runners which are molded onto the filter body and extend from the outlet fitting which is also electrically conductive. An electrically conductive path is thus provided from the conductive strands of the filter body, through the runners to the conductive outlet fitting which is attached to a conductive (typically metal) and grounded component of a fuel pump housing.

A fuel filter for use in a fuel filter/pump/sensor module and method of making same provides an in-tank fuel filter having a novel retaining member for securing the body of the filter in a position adjacent the housing of a fuel pump to which it is connected. The filter includes a fabric body, an in-situ molded outlet fitting on the top side of the fabric body and runners or contact points on the underside of the body. The fabric body may be a single folded fabric swatch or a plurality of swatches sealed about the open edges. The outlet fitting cooperatively engages the inlet of a fuel pump. A retaining member formed on the periphery of the body engages the housing of the fuel pump and positions the filter body adjacent the housing.

A fuel filter assembly adapted for disposition in a housing includes an inner filtration element, an outer conductive surround and end caps which position and secure the filtration element and conductive surround. The filtration element preferably includes an outer layer of depth filtration media and an inner pleated paper element. The conductive surround is preferably conductive extruded plastic mesh. The end caps may be formed of a fuel tolerant plastic such as nylon or acetal. The filter assembly may be disposed in a housing having suitable inlet and outlet fittings and a conductive path for achieving electrical conductivity from the exterior of the housing to the conductive surround for facilitating draining off of an electrical charge.
