Endovascular stents capable of being cut from a flat piece of material are described. The endovascular stents may be bioabsorbable, multilayered and may have structural configurations allowing them to maintain low profiles in vivo. Methods of manufacturing endovascular stents and methods of using endovascular stents are also described.

Biodegradable thermoplastic polymer blend compositions are presented in which a first polymer and a second polymer are intimately associated together in a uniform, substantially homogeneous blend. The second polymer of the composition acts to facilitate biodegradation of the composition, and of shaped articles manufactured therefrom, at a rate which is enhanced over that of the most slowly biodegrading individual polymer component of the composition. The present invention relates to a process for producing degradable, shrinkable films of polyhydroxy acid and plasticizers including melt processing the materials to obtain uniform composition, forming the composition into a film, and biaxially orienting the film. A blend of an E/X/Y copolymer, where E is ethylene, X is a vinyl ester, and Y is carbon monoxide or sulfur dioxide, with a polymer of vinyl halide or vinylidene halide is foamed and cured by dispersing in the blend a blowing agent and sulfur or a sulfur-releasing agent and heating the blend containing those additives at 100.degree.-180.degree. C. for a sufficient time to produce curing and foaming. This process can be run either continuously or batchwise in conventional equipment under conventional conditions in the presence of air. Plasticizers and other materials which often interfere with peroxide cures can be present in the process of this invention.
