A solar-powered boat winch suited for installation upon boat lifting structures such as those in a remote location. The solar powered boat winch includes an electric motorized winch, a solar cell, a rechargeable battery, a recharger, and mechanical mounts for attaching the solar powered boat winch to a boat lift structure. The solar cell collects sufficient solar energy and converts it into electricity that charges the rechargeable battery. The rechargeable battery acts as the power source for an electric motor of the winch. The winch assembly also includes remote controlled operation.

Disclosed are water treatment systems and methods that are characterized by reduced leaching of color-bearing material (i.e., color-bearing leachates) into effluent water. The disclosed systems and methods may include or utilize filtering systems comprising selected mixed ion-exchange resin beds of a strong acid sulfonated cation exchange resin and an anion exchange resin.

A cartridge for a water treatment system, effective to assist in the removal of contaminants by photocatalytic oxidation and by adsorption, includes a plurality of stacked disks, preferably made of a UV light transmissive material, which disks define circuitous flow paths for water being treated. In a preferred embodiment, the disk surfaces contacted by the water are provided with a coating of a catalyst, such as TiO, activated by a UV light source positioned in the center of the cartridge.

Photocatalytic water treatment apparatus

A feeder insert apparatus for a tubular water filtration cartridge utilized in household point of use water filtration systems. The feeder insert allows a chemical to be fed into a incoming water supply at a controlled rate by employing a bypass system that allows a predetermined amount of incoming water to flow past the feed chemical without contacting the chemical. The amount of water in the bypass flow can also be manually adjusted through the use of two adjustment mechanisms, an adjustable ring and a rotatable end cap, located on the feeder insert.

Method for using a center core cartridge feeder insert

A small filter cartridge is particularly adapted to be attached to the neck of a conventional plastic soft drink bottle to filter contaminated water contained in the bottle by passing the water through the filter as it is discharged from the bottle. The flexible bottle walls are squeezed to pressurize the water and facilitate flow through the filter element. The filter includes a uniquely positioned check valve which allows pressure equalization of the bottle interior in a simple and efficient manner. The filter is attached directly to the neck of the bottle and embodiments are disclosed in which the element is inserted completely within the bottle and mounted entirely outside the bottle.

A composite cartridge type filter of the kind utilizing a hollow cylindrical body of bonded activated carbon and an interior filled with a particulate filter media bed is disposed within a housing such that raw unfiltered water passes radially inwardly through the carbon body, into the interior media bed and then axially through the media bed to an outlet in one end. To balance the radial flow of water through the carbon body and maximize contact with the particulate media bed, a flow distribution device is disposed in the interface between the carbon body and the particulate filter media bed to distribute a portion of the flow toward the end of the media bed which is remote from the cartridge outlet. In this manner, short circuiting of the water through the filter is eliminated, radial flow through the carbon body is balanced, and a substantial portion of the flow is forced to follow a path which carries it through substantially the full length of the particulate media bed.

Multi-function filter cartridge with flow distribution control

A filter cartridge for treating drinking water to remove a broad range of microorganisms includes a microbiocidal resin layer, a porous activated carbon filter element and a flow controller to assure a minimum effective residence time of water in the filter under varying pressure conditions. The microbiocidal resin preferably comprises a halogenated resin bed which is effective to kill a broad range of bacteria, viruses and protozoan cysts. The five micron carbon filter element removes any particularly resistant cysts which may have survived passage through the resin bed. The filter may also be provided with a scavenger resin downstream of the haogenated resin bed to remove any free halogens from the final effluent. A buffering resin may also be included upstream of the halogenated resin bed to precondition high pH supply water. Compensation for the decreased microbiocidal activity of the halogenated resin with decreasing supply water temperature may be provided by a temperature sensitive flow control valve which increasingly restricts the flow of supply water into the filter with decreasing water temperature.
