This invention is a magnetic clutch brake mechanism operable to achieve either a clutch or a brake function and can be installed, for example, on a lawn mower apparatus to selectively control the rotating movement of a lawn mower blade member. The magnetic clutch brake mechanism includes: (1) a main actuator assembly; (2) a drive rotor assembly which is connected to a main drive shaft for rotating same; (3) a clutch plate assembly operably connectable to the drive rotor assembly; and (4) in this case, a blade mount assembly to receive a rotatable lawn mower blade that is securely fastened thereto. The main actuator assembly includes an actuator bracket member which is connected to an actuator ring member that is selectively movable axially about the drive rotor assembly and the clutch plate assembly to alter a magnetic field therein. The drive rotor assembly includes a rotor member which is driven by a gasoline or electric motor in order to rotate same at a desired speed. The clutch plate assembly includes a plate member used to secure a plurality of magnet members against a collector member and haivng a bearing member which rotatably connects same about the main drive shaft. The blade mount assembly is connected to the clutch plate assembly and operable to receive a lawn mower blade member thereon by a plurality of nut and bolt members. The actuator ring member is operable to move axially about the clutch plate assembly to selectively affect the magnetic field therein to clutch or brake the relative rotating members.

Magnetic clutch-brake mechanism

A variable flow reversible vane pump having a rotor with slidable vanes, a shaft providing rotary power take off for the rotor and a cam ring wherein said rotor rotates with the vanes engaging the inside of the cam ring. A case encases the cam ring and a front bearing plate connects to the front of the case. A rotary valve surrounds the shaft and flushes against the cam ring and the rotor with slidable vanes and has a structure defining a plurality of directly opposed channeled arcuate grooves, at least one port in each of the opposed grooves, and a plurality of gear teeth along part of the periphery. A rear bearing plate encloses the other end of the cam ring and the rotor and has a structure with rear plate apertures in communication with one of the opposed arcuate grooves and the port therein of the rotary valve plate. A rotatable gear is lodged within a gear channel of the case and meshes with the gear teeth along the periphery of the rotary valve plate. A central shaft is bound to the gear and externally rotates the valve plate relative to the cam ring and the rotor and the rear plate apertures. The method of the pumping with the vane pump comprises controlling externally the angular position of the rotary valve plate with respect to the fixed cam ring and the rotating rotor therein having radially slidable vanes engaging the inside of the cam ring in order to control the direction and rate of flow of the fluids through the rear plate apertures of the rear bearing plate.

Apparatus of increased simplicity, reliability and economy is provided for automatically maintaining the tautness of a mechanical coupling such as commonly employed, for example, between a vehicular brake and its actuating mechanism, which would otherwise be subject to loosening during normal use as a result of wear or the like. The apparatus, although also utilizable with mechanical couplings employing rigid connecting links, is especially suited for use with couplings employing flexible cables or the like, wherein it need only be interposed in series with the cabling between the actuating mechanism and the device actuatable thereby, thereby adapting the apparatus for use in a variety of applications in which control cable couplings are employed. The apparatus basically requires only an assembly having a threadably intercoupled element and member mounted for reciprocation by the associated cabling or linkages, with the element being restrained against rotation and the member being rotatable and provided with a unique arrangement of rotary cam surfaces continuously engaged by a follower pin whose position is fixed relative to the reciprocable movement of the assembly and the rotatability of the member.

A manually operated, cable control lever assembly especially adapted for use with a handlebar grip is provided with an elongate lever having one end thereof pivotally mounted to a support bracket which also restrains the movement of the control cable in a direction generally aligned with the lever. The lever is provided with: an essentially straight, internal cavity extending longitudinally therethrough and providing a first access opening in the free end of the lever; an attenuated, internal passageway in communication with the cavity and diverging away from the latter toward the free extremity of the lever and terminating in a second, recessed access opening; and, an access slot extending between the access openings and into the passageway. The end of a typical control cable provided with a keeper element is installed in the lever assembly by threading the keeper element through the cavity and out the first access opening and into the second access opening while the cable itself passes through the slot into operative position within the passageway. With the cable thusly installed, the end thereof is secured to the lever member at a point on the latter substantially spaced from the pivoting end thereof in order to place intermediate stretches of the lever member in force compression when the lever member is operated.

A twistable type throttle-grip assembly especially adapted for use with motorcycle-like vehicles manipulates a single control cable and is normally operational in a first rotational range for controlling the supply of fuel to the vehicle's internal combustion engine thereby controlling the vehicle's speed and is provided with an integral latch mechanism which may be operated by the thumb of the operator while holding the hand grip to release the hand grip for rotation into a second rotational range associated with the operation of a cable controlled, combustion cylinder compression release device on the engine to turn off the latter and permit manual pedaling of the vehicle. The latch mechanism includes a ring-shaped latch member sleeved over the vehicle's handlebar and having an arcuate, resilient, cantilever mounted shiftable latch portion which extends into a slot within a housing therearound adjacent the end of the hand grip to permit access thereto by the vehicle's operator and is selectively shiftable into and out of engagement with the housing to permit selective shifting of the hand grip into either rotational range.

This invention relates to a wire matrix printer system using a plurality of unique print wire actuator mechanisms operable to print dots on a printing medium. The novelty is in each print wire actuator mechanism using an electro-mechanical combination including (1) a print wire actuator; (2) a permanent magnet collector; (3) a solenoid collector; and (4) a connector assembly holding the aforementioned together as a unit. The print wire actuator includes a print wire assembly having a wire member moved through a printing stroke under the unique combined force of (1) a torsion rod, and (2) a solenoid member. Additionally, the wire member is returned to the rest or starting position under the force of the torsion rod and a permanent magnet collector member.
