The fuel pump monitoring system includes a display device (), an information network (), a data communication network (), a monitoring device (), and an information server (). The monitoring device collects environmental parameters and operates independent from the vehicle. In one embodiment, the monitoring device uses GPS technology. The fuel pump information server provides fuel pump information and related information to a subscriber. In one embodiment, the monitoring device is in communication with an Iridium satellite constellation () and the information is displayed to the subscriber when the fuel pump is substantially anywhere in the world. In another embodiment, the display device is in communication with the Iridium satellite constellation and the information is displayed to the subscriber when the subscriber is substantially anywhere in the world, preferably via the Internet ().

A tracking system () for tracking movable assets () and a method for using the system are provided. The tracking system includes a monitoring device (), a tracking information network (), a data communication network (), a tracker tag (), and a tracking information server (). The tracker tag operates independent from the asset and uses GPS technology. The tracking information server provides tracking information and related information to a subscriber. The method is for tracking the movable asset and providing tracking information to the subscriber. In one embodiment, the tracker tag is in communication with an Iridium satellite constellation () and the tracking information is displayed to the subscriber when the asset is substantially anywhere in the world. In another embodiment, the monitoring device is in communication with the Iridium satellite constellation and the tracking information is displayed to the subscriber when the subscriber is substantially anywhere in the world, preferably via the Internet ().

Tracking system and associated method

A tracking system () for tracking movable assets () and several methods for using the system are provided. The tracking system includes a monitoring device (), a tracking information network (), a data communication network (), a tracker tag (), and a tracking information server (). The tracker tag uses GPS technology. The tracking information server provides programmed instructions to the tracker tag in messages via a messaging system. The tracker tag selectively retrieves the messages from the messaging system. The tracking information server provides tracking information and related information to a subscriber. In one embodiment, the tracker tag is in communication with an Iridium satellite constellation () and tracking information is displayed to the subscriber when the asset is substantially anywhere in the world. In another embodiment, the monitoring device is in communication with the Iridium satellite constellation and tracking information is displayed to the subscriber when the subscriber is substantially anywhere in the world, preferably via the Internet ().

A hand-held portable computer is disclosed. The computer includes a housing at least partially enclosing computer electronics, a visible display screen supported by the computer housing and a handle assembly connected to the computer housing. The handle assembly includes a handle support, a support retainer affixed to the housing at a location opposite the screen and a handle supported by the handle support. The support retainer adjustably connects the handle support to the computer housing. In the preferred embodiment, the handle support is rotatably adjustable with respect to the computer housing. The handle support includes an annular ring having a plurality of indentations on one surface and the support retainer includes a detent which engages a selected one of the indentations to secure the handle support in a desired rotational orientation.

Interactive display user interface computer and method

A protection system for a hard drive in a portable computing device in which the hard drive is placed in a protective state based on the kinetic energy of the hard drive exceeding a determined threshold. Upon determination that the threshold has been exceeded, the protection system takes steps to protect the hard drive so that the hard drive will be less susceptible to damage from impact.

A hand-held workslate computer is disclosed. The workslate computer includes electronic circuitry including a microprocessor and a visual display screen electrically coupled to the microprocessor. The display screen includes a position sensitive contact portion. The workslate computer also includes a housing including a top face and a bottom face separated by a side wall and defining an interior region, the housing supporting the electronic circuitry and the visual display screen. A set of modular devices is provided, each device including interface circuitry. The housing further includes at least two modular device docking stations adapted to releasably engage a selected one of the set of modular devices. Interface circuitry is provided to electrically couple circuitry in the selected modular device and the microprocessor. The modular devices may be mounted to selected modular device docking stations to provide an ergonomically correct weight balance.

A portable data collection device including an integral bar code dataform reader. The device includes a housing configured to be cradled in an operator's hand and be operated as a stand alone unit for dataform reading, data input via user interface keys and a display screen. The device further includes a removable handle with a pistol gripping portion permitting an operator to select between two gripping configurations. The handle is configured to snap fit onto the housing and includes a trigger which is depressed to initiate a dataform reading session. The trigger is part of a trigger assembly which includes an LED and a photosensor supported within a bottom portion of the housing. When the trigger is depressed, a mirror supported by the trigger reflects light from the LED onto the photosensor which results in the activation of the bar code dataform reader. Advantageously, a power source comprising a battery pack is removably disposed in the handle and is electrically coupled to circuitry supported in the housing to supplement a power source supported in the housing and provide increased operating time between rechargings.

A portable data collection terminal including an arm mounting assembly is disclosed. The terminal includes a terminal housing having a docking base protruding from its bottom surface. The docking base is configured to snugly fit in a recess defined by a thin docking member. The docking member is secured to a sleeve overlying an operator's forearm by a flexible strap. The strength of attachment between the terminal housing and the docking member is small enough to permit the terminal housing to release from the docking member if a sufficient force is applied to the terminal housing.

Impacts to the case of a portable electronic unit including a display are dissipated by a plurality of thermoplastic elastomeric damping elements which isolate an internal frame unit, carrying the display and associated electronic components, from contact with the enclosure. Each damping element is provided with corresponding positioning structures within the case to ensure that the frame unit 'floats' on protective shock absorbing material to provide three-dimensional support and damping of impacts incident from any direction. Damping elements may take the form of small caps of elastomeric material at spaced positions around the periphery of the frame unit. Electronic connections to the display screen are accomplished using flexible connectors to maintain the mechanical isolation of the display screen from the rest of the unit.
