Stereoscopic image display is described. In an embodiment, a location of the eye pupils of a viewer is determined and tracked. An image is displayed within a first focus for viewing with the left eye of the viewer, and the image is displayed within a second focus for viewing with the right eye of the viewer. A positional change of the eye pupils is tracked and a sequential image that corresponds to the positional change of the eye pupils is generated for stereoscopic viewing. In another embodiment, an image is displayed for stereoscopic viewing and a head position of a viewer relative to a center of the displayed image is determined. A positional change of the viewer's head is tracked, and a sequential image that corresponds to the positional change of the viewer's head is generated for stereoscopic viewing.

Stereoscopic image display

A pixel includes a primary element and a secondary element. At least a portion of the primary element is deformable between two positions. In one position, the light source is reflected such that the observer observes a dark pixel. In the other position, the light is reflected such that the observer observes a bright pixel. Gray levels of light are viewable by varying between the two positions.

Display device and pixel therefor

A document digitizing method digitizes and automatically indexes documents in printed form. The method includes optically scanning the document, forming and storing a digitized image file from the optically scanned document, optically recognizing characters in the optically scanned document, and forming and storing a text file of the optically recognized characters in document. A retrieval method for retrieving the digitized image file for a document includes searching the text files to identify any having a selected text string and providing access to the digitized image files that correspond to those text files. The digital image file and the text file together represent a digitized document data structure that combines a digital image of a document with a text file of optically recognized characters in the digital image.

Document imaging and indexing system

Systems and methods providing multiband color management are described. In one aspect, source peripheral device primary color spectra are determined. Target peripheral device primary color spectra are also identified. Source and target color spaces are respectively modeled based on the source and target peripheral device primary color spectra. Color management is implemented using the source and target color spaces.

Multiband color management

Exemplary methods for estimating an orientation angle and a translation values for scanned images are disclosed. The methods described herein may be embodied as logic instructions on a computer-readable medium. In one exemplary implementation meaningful image information is removed from a scanned image, resulting in a transformed image that comprises alternating, parallel lines disposed at an orientation angle relative to an orthogonal axis. The orientation angle may be determined using geometric techniques or statistical correlation techniques, and statistical correlation techniques may be implemented to determine translation values.

Color measurement using compact devices is described herein. A color measurement device can include a diffraction grating that receives light reflected from a surface whose color is being measured. The diffraction grating is responsive to a control signal to split selected components from the reflected light and to admit the components in sequence to a sensor. The components can correspond to a selected wavelength or frequency of the reflected light. The sensor measures the energy or power level of each of the admitted components. The device can support determining a spectral representation of the color of the surface by generating output signals representing the various energy or power levels of each component of the light reflected from the surface.

Color measurement using compact device

A color filter cross-talk compensator is provided for a multi-color reflective display system having a controllable display cell with multiple adjacent color filters that transmit generally different components with overlaps between them, ambient light being transmitted into the display cell and reflected back through it. The color filter cross-talk compensator receives image data that correspond to a display image to be rendered and generates cross-talk compensated color component drive signals that are delivered to the display cell (e.g. L.C.D). The cross-talk compensated color component drive signals compensate for the overlapping color components transmitted by the color filters for the different color components. A color filter cross-talk compensation method is also provided.

Exemplary methods for performing a statistical analysis of scanned images are disclosed. The methods described herein may be embodied as logic instructions on a computer-readable medium. In one exemplary implementation a correlation value is determined between a scanned image included in a digital file and an original digital image, and a signal is generated indicating whether the correlation value exceeds a threshold.

Correlative assessment between scanned and original digital images

A MEMS optical display system includes an illumination source for providing illumination light, a collimating lens for receiving the illumination light and forming from it collimated illumination light, and a microlens array having an array of lenslets for receiving the illumination light from the collimating lens. The converging microlens array directs the illumination light through an array of pixel apertures in an aperture plate to a microelectrical mechanical reflector array positioned opposite the aperture plate. The microelectrical mechanical reflector array includes an array of microelectrical mechanical actuators that support reflectors in alignment with the array of pixel apertures and selectively orients the reflectors to direct the illumination light back through the pixel apertures (to form part of a display image) or against the aperture plate (to be blocked). The illumination light passing back through the pixel apertures passes through the microlens array and a beamsplitter to a display screen.

Reflective microelectrical mechanical structure (MEMS) optical modulator and optical display system

A microelectrical mechanical out-of-plane thermal buckle-beam actuator is capable of providing transverse-plane movement of shutters. The actuator includes a pair of structural anchors secured to a substrate and one or more thermal buckle-beams secured at respective base ends to the anchors. Each buckle-beam extends substantially parallel to and spaced-apart from the substrate and is releasable from the substrate at points other than at the anchors. The thermal buckle-beam actuators are suitable for use in a microelectrical mechanical optical display system.

Microelectrical mechanical structure (MEMS) optical modulator and optical display system

A data input device for use with a tracking surface having light-scattering properties. The device comprises a coherent light source for projecting a coherent light beam onto the tracking surface to reflect a speckle pattern. A detector having a field of view detects and images the speckle pattern. The detector operates in a tracking mode when the field of view intersects the coherent light beam. The intersection of the coherent light beam and the field of view comprise a detection zone. Relative movement between the coherent light beam and the tracking surface within the detection zone between is detected in the tracking mode, based on the reflected speckle pattern. Relative movement between the coherent light beam and the tracking surface outside the detection zone is not detected. A controller responsive to the detector operates in the tracking mode for correlating the imaged laser speckle pattern to track the relative movement within the detection zone.

The present invention provides a method, apparatus and computer-readable medium for providing high quality substantially visually error-free conversion of color images. The method maps the color values to an expanded colorspace to represent substantially all colors without perceptible visual error and labels an image determined by the mapped color values as an expanded colorspace image. Thus, the present invention may be utilized to provide a linear color management system. In a 16 bit color data value system, transparency/opaqueness information may be stored, and premultiplied or premultiplied and normalized values may be used for blending.

Visually error-free color image representation

A MEMS optical display system includes an illumination source for providing illumination light, a collimating lens for receiving the illumination light and forming from it collimated illumination light, and a converging microlens array having an array of lenslets that converge the collimated illumination light. The converging microlens array directs the illumination light to a microelectrical mechanical system (MEMS) optical modulator. The MEMS optical modulator includes, for example, a planar substrate through which multiple pixel apertures extend and multiple MEMS actuators that support and selectively position MEMS shutters over the apertures. A MEMS actuator and MEMS shutter, together with a corresponding aperture, correspond to pixel. The light from the converging microlens array is focused through the apertures and is selectively modulated according to the positioning of the MEMS shutters by the MEMS actuators, thereby to impart image information on the illumination light. The light is then passed to a diffused transmissive display screen by a projection microlens array.
