An AC power adapter for a plug-in electric vehicle has a connector for reception in a charging port of the plug-in electric vehicle, at least one AC outlet coupled to the connector and command generation circuitry coupled to the connector for generating a command that causes the plug-in electric vehicle to put itself into a power feedback mode wherein AC power generated by the plug-in electric vehicle and provided to its charging port is coupled through the connector to the AC outlet.

A method includes detecting that a battery pack requires charging and is currently operable for recharging. The method can identify a specific cell having a highest voltage in response to the detecting. The method can then recharge each cell of the battery pack to a predetermined voltage that is a sum of (i) a maximum open circuit voltage of the specific cell and (ii) a voltage based on a resistance of and a first current supplied to the specific cell. When a temperature of the specific cell is less than a predetermined temperature or an age of the specific cell is greater than a predetermined age, the method includes recharging each cell to the predetermined voltage at less than the first current when (i) a predetermined period has elapsed or (ii) a voltage of the specific cell is less than a voltage threshold.

A method and integrated circuit for preserving a battery's charge and protecting electrical devices is disclosed. A maximum and a minimum battery voltage value at the output port are stored in a memory. A steady state battery voltage at the output port is measured and stored in the memory. A processor compares the measured steady battery voltage value to the maximum and the minimum battery voltage values. If the measured steady state battery voltage value is greater than the maximum battery voltage value, an over voltage state is reported by the processor. If the measured steady state battery voltage value is less than the minimum battery voltage value, a low battery voltage state is reported by the processor.

In a method for driving electronic devices connected to a vehicle trailer tow connector a trailer electronic device control signal is receiving from a vehicle data communication network. In response to the received control signal, a solid state power control device is switched to connect electrical power to a selected pin of the trailer tow connector. The trailer electronic device control signal may be received from a wiring harness connector connected to a vehicle data communication network. A vehicle trailer tow connector module includes a module housing. A vehicle wiring connector and a trailer wiring connector are coupled to the module housing. A power control circuit is connected to a selected pin in the trailer wiring connector. A controller circuit is coupled to the vehicle wiring connector for receiving communication data from a vehicle data bus, and coupled by control lines to the power control circuit.

An integrated circuit and method for monitoring and controlling power and for identifying an open circuit state at an output port is disclosed. A circuit is implemented to determine whether an open circuit state exists based on a comparison of data received from the output port and attached loads. The data received from the output port and attached loads is compared to a minimum open circuit current value of the output port, wherein the minimum open circuit current value is based on the hardware characteristics of the output port and attached loads. A possible open circuit state at the output port is reported based on the comparison.

A directional load is capable of operating in multiple directions. For example, a directional motor may rotate in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. A directional load driver generates output signals causing the directional load to operate in one of the directions, thereby providing a requested function. The state-encoded input signal could be received by the directional load driver over a single wire or through a single input pin. Under the control of the directional load driver, the directional load could perform any of a wide variety of functions.
