A wear component for use in an impact crusher having a forward depression on the face of the wear component which is exposed to aggregate wear. Wear resistant inserts, for example cemented tungsten carbide inserts, are bonded within the forward depression to prevent rapid abrasion of the wear component. Joints are formed between wear resistant inserts and joints are also formed between wear resistant inserts and the wear component. Bonding material fills the joints to further secure the wear resistant inserts and to prevent crack propagation.

An impact crusher includes a center feed disk. The center feed disk includes a peripheral edge portion, a first face, an opposing, second face, a central bore extending through the first and second faces, and first and second countersunk pockets provided about the central bore in the first and second faces respectively. With this arrangement, a fastener having a shaft portion and a head portion can be inserted through the central bore to secure the center feed disk to a drive mechanism, with the head portion residing in the countersunk pocket. With this arrangement, once the first face portion becomes worn, the center feed disk can be removed, inverted and re-mounted such that the second face portion is exposed.

The present invention is particularly, but not exclusively, useful for reducing wear of component parts of impact-type rock-crushing machines caused by earth aggregate flows during operation of impact crushers. The present invention includes a central feed body and impeller shoe that has hard material insert bars fixed therein to reduce wear. The exposed top surface of the central feed body and front face of the impeller shoe are impregnated with a plurality of cemented carbide insert bars. The cemented carbide insert bars form an upper composite matrix that helps to reduce wear and the premature wash out of the hard material insert bars integrally cast within the central feed body.

A pivot pipe for a two-cylinder thick material sludge pump is designed to reduce the rate of wear of the sealing surfaces and flow bores of the pivot pipe and cooperating outlets on the two pump cylinders. As the pivot pipe oscillates from one pump cylinder to the other pump cylinder the contacting sealing surfaces are subjected to abrasion and impact wear. The present invention limits the rate of wear between the contacting sealing surfaces and a portion of the flow bore by fixing monolithic wearing rings on the upstream end of the pivot pipe and on the outlets of the two pump cylinders. The monolithic wearing rings are made of a hard materials such as cemented tungsten carbide.

A rotary drill bit for penetrating earth strata wherein the drill bit includes a drill bit body that has an axial forward end. The drill bit body has a hard insert, which is preferably monolithic, that is affixed to the drill bit body at the axial forward end thereof. The hard insert presents at least three discrete leading cutting edges for cutting the earth strata.

A drill steel-chuck assembly which includes a drill steel which has a plurality of faces and opposite ends. The drill steel has one portion adjacent one of the opposite ends thereof and a mediate portion spaced apart from the one portion. The drill steel further has one transition portion between the one portion and the mediate portion so as to join the one portion and the mediate portion. The one portion of the drill steel presents a first orientation of the faces. The mediate portion of the drill steel presents a second orientation of the faces. The one transition portion of the drill steel presents a twisted orientation of the faces comprising a generally constant twist of the faces from the first orientation of the one portion to the second orientation of the mediate portion. There is a chuck for attachment to the drill steel through engagement with the transition portion of the drill steel.
