A wireless system receives a registration from a user device and transfers a request for the user device to an authorization server. The authorization server authorizes a user session for the user device and transfers a common identifier for the user session to the wireless system. The wireless system receives the common identifier and transfers a registration for the user device to an application node. The application node receives the registration and transfers a request for the user device to the authorization server. The authorization server authorizes a user application for the user device and transfers the common identifier for the user application to the application node. The wireless communication system tracks the user session and transfers user session data records having the common identifier. The application node tracks the user application and transfers user application data records having the common identifier.

Maintaining a common identifier for a user session on a communication network

Computer-readable media for dynamic quality of service assignment are described. In embodiments, a data packet is received that is part of a communications stream and a dynamically modifiable quality of service indicator (DMQOSI) is embedded into the data packet wherein, in various embodiments, the DMQOSI indicates a prescribed quality of service that is associated with the data packet and is modifiable prior to completing a communication of the communications stream. In various embodiments, the data packet is communicated from a source to a destination that at least periodically references the DMQOSI to ensure that the data packet is being communicated consistent with the prescribed quality of service associated with the data packet.

Dynamic quality of service (QOS) assignment

A method for maintaining a common billing identifier for a user session in a communication network is presented. In the method, an authentication node of the communication network receives a first authentication request associated with a user session. In response to the first authentication request, a billing identifier associated with the user session is transferred from the authentication node to a source of the first authentication request. A second authentication request associated with the same user session is received at the authentication node. In response to the second authentication request, the same billing identifier is transferred from the authentication node to a source of the second authentication request.

A method is provided for maintaining a common billing identifier for a user session in a communication network. In the method, an authentication request associated with a user session is transferred from an access node of the communication network to an authentication node of the network. The access node receives an authentication acknowledgment transferred from the authentication node in response to the request. In response to the acknowledgment, a billing identifier associated with the user session is generated at the access node. The billing identifier is transferred from the access node to an application node of the communication network.

Methods, systems and devices examine data flows in a communication system control network for known malware threats and suspicious properties typically associated with malware threats. A policy management system inside the control network accesses a user repository and a charging network, and performs pattern matching and/or observed behavior detection methods to determine if the data flows carry content (e.g., malware) that poses a security risk to network or wireless devices. The policy management system generates policy rules based on user preferences and risk-level. The policy management system sends the generated policy rules to a gateway/PCEF, which blocks the data flows, allows the data flows, or restricts the data flow based on the policy rules.

Method and system for determining and implementing policy controls in a communications network

A method and system are provided to select address providers that provide mobile internet protocol devices with addresses for communication. An embodiment of the method includes obtaining an address request having a dynamic indicator. Upon obtaining an address request with a dynamic indicator, associating the dynamic indicator with one or more address providers based on the dynamic indicator. The address request is then communicated to one of the address providers associated with the dynamic indicator.

A method for assigning a static mobile internet protocol address to a mobile node by an access node is provided. The method includes receiving a mobile registration request message, sending an access request message to an authorization node in response to the registration request, and receiving an access accept message containing a static mobile IP address from the authorization node. The method continues by sending an access registration request message containing the static mobile IP address to a mobile network internet node, which then assigns the static mobile IP address to the mobile node. A mobile access registration request message associated with the mobile registration request message is sent to the mobile network internet node at a time after the access registration request message has been sent. A mobile access registration reply message is received from the mobile network internet node, and a mobile reply registration message containing the static mobile IP address is sent to the mobile node.

A method, system, and medium are provided for accounting for data transfer across a packet-switched network. A unique session identifier is generated at an accounting service node and provided to accounting nodes. Accounting nodes collect data transfer information corresponding to a session and associate the data transfer information with the unique session identifier. The data transfer information is provided to the accounting service node, which generates accounting records based on that information.

A method for providing location information for a wireless device in a communication system is provided. The method comprises receiving a usage data record for the wireless device at an access node, and providing the usage data record to an authentication node. A second block of packets is sent through the network at a second throughput rate. The second block of packets has the differential treatment field set to a second value. A treatment field value for the differential treatment field is selected based on the first report and the second report. Dynamically modifiable quality of service indicator

What is disclosed is a system and method wherein a wireless access system configured to receive a data packet with a first quality-of-service indicator value from a wireless device over a wireless link, provide a first level of service to the wireless device over the wireless link based on the first quality-of-service indicator, and transfer the data packet with the first quality-of-service indicator. The communication system includes a core packet network configured to receive the data packet with the first quality-of-service indicator and determine if the first quality-of-service indicator is consistent with a quality-of-service policy for the wireless device. The core packet network is configured, if the first quality-of-service indicator is not consistent with the quality-of-service policy for the wireless device, to determine a second quality-of-service indicator consistent with the quality-of-service policy for the wireless device, and transfer the data packet with the second quality-of-service indicator. The wireless access system is configured to receive the data packet with the second quality-of-service indicator, and provide a second level of service to the wireless device over the wireless link based on the second quality-of-service indicator.
