A method of processing geophysical data including at least measured potential field data from a potential field survey of a surveyed region of the earth to provide a representation of the geology of said surveyed region, the method comprising generating a first model of said surveyed region by fitting data predicted by said first model to said measured data for a specified frequency range; predicting full range potential field data for all measured frequencies using said generated first model; comparing said full range predicted data to said measured potential field data to provide full range residual data representing a difference between the full range predicted data and the full range measured data, and interpreting said full range residual data to provide a representation of said geology of said surveyed region.

Geophysical data processing systems

This invention relates to improved techniques for processing potential field measurement data from airborne surveys such as gravity surveys, and to improved techniques for data acquisition which are enabled by the improved data processing techniques. We describe a method of processing measured potential field data from a potential field survey of the earth to determine map data for mapping said field, the method comprising: inputting said measured potential field data, said measured potential field data comprising data defining a plurality of potential field measurements and associated positions, each said position defining a position of a said potential field measurement in three dimensions; determining a plurality relationships between said potential field measurements and said positions, each said relationship relating a said potential field measurement to a function of a said associated position in three dimensions multiplied by a field mapping parameter; and determining a substantially self-consistent set of said field mapping parameters for said plurality of relationships to thereby determine said map data.

Gravity survey data processing

A method, apparatus and computer program code for processing data from potential field surveys, particularly airborne gravity field surveys, to correct for the effects of terrain. A method of processing potential field measurement data from a moving platform survey for mapping a field includes data defining a time series of potential field measurements captured by a potential field measurement instrument mounted on a moving platform, each of the measurements having associated data defining positions, inputting terrain data defining a spatial variation of terrain surveyed, determining time-domain correction data to be applied to the measured potential field data in the time-domain, and adjusting the measured potential field data defining the time series of potential field measurements using the time-domain correction data to provide terrain corrected measured potential field data for the mapping of the field.

This invention relates to techniques for processing potential field measurement data from airborne surveys such as gravity surveys, and to methods, apparatus and computer program code for such techniques. The method comprises: inputting measured potential field data comprising data defining a plurality of potential field measurements each with an associated measurement position and measurement time; and determining a set of field mapping parameters using a model comprising a combination of a spatial part representing a spatial variation of a potential field and a temporal part representing time domain noise in the measured potential field data.
