A method of producing a low sulfur tall oil fatty acid by first esterifying the tall oil fatty acid, followed by distillation of the tall oil fatty acid ester, followed by saponification and acidulation to provide a low sulfur tall oil fatty acid. A fuel additive comprising tall oil fatty acid and a sulfur compound, wherein the sulfur compound comprises from about 0.1 to about 20 ppm of the additive. A fuel comprises a hydrocarbon fuel component and the fuel additive.

Fuel additives, fuels, methods of making and using same

A process for the dehydrogenation of a Cor Calkyl aromatic compound to a corresponding vinyl aromatic compound in a tubular reactor incorporating a spiral flow path. Preferred embodiments of the invention provide processes for the production of styrene or divinylbenzene by the catalytic dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene or diethylbenzene, respectively. A feedstock containing a Cor Calkyl aromatic and steam is supplied into the inlet of a tubular reactor containing a dehydrogenation catalyst and comprising a hydrogen permeable outer wall. The alkyl aromatic compound is dehydrogenated to a corresponding vinyl aromatic compound with the attendant production of hydrogen. The feedstock and products of the dehydrogenation reactor are flowed along a longitudinal spiral flow path providing for an outward radial flow of hydrogen to provide a pressure gradient through the hydrogen permeable outer wall of the reactor with the flow of hydrogen therethrough. Hydrogen is removed from the outer wall of the reactor. The resulting vinyl aromatic product is recovered from the tubular reactor.

Dehydrogenation process

A metal lock system is provided for securing a crack or break in a metal casting from further cracking, breaking, or leakage. The metal lock system includes a metal lock having parallel, flat top and bottom surfaces and a plurality of alternating large and small lobes, and a plurality of tapered lacing plugs. The metal lock is imbedded into an irregular recess of precision drilled bores disposed adjacently in intersecting alignment. This binds the crack or break from further separation while the crack or break is sealed by imbedding tapered lacing plugs into lacing bores which are drilled along the crack. The preferred lacing plug has a tapered shaft, straight threads, a shoulder, and a break-off groove. the preferred tapered lacing plug threads into lacing bores with straight threads and the shoulder seats the lacing plug by crushing the first few threads of the lacing bore. The head of the lacing plug breaks off at the break-off groove at a predetermined torque. Another embodiment of the metal lock system is used when precision drilling is not possible. With this embodiment, the metal lock is a bar having spaced grooves on opposite longitudinal sides. The metal lock is imbedded into an irregular recess carved from the casting which lies across the crack and securing plugs are disposed within the grooves to hold the lock in position.

Method for repairing a metal casting having a crack or break therein

Apparatus for repairing a casting having a crack therein comprising a metal lock to extend across the crack and a lacing plug to fit in the crack, the metal lock formed as a rigid elongate member having a plurality of lobes formed from adjacent portions that are circular in cross-section and each having its center on the longitudinal axis of the elongate member, said lobes being of alternating large and small diameters and including a central large diameter lobe and at least one outer large diameter lobe at each side of the central large diameter lobe, said central large diameter lobe being spaced from each outer large diameter lobe by a small diameter lobe and with each lobe overlapping its adjacent lobe and extending through the elongate member; and the lacing plug including a head configured to receive a driving tool, a tapered shaft, a shoulder at a top of the tapered shaft, a non-threaded shaft portion interconnecting the head and the tapered shaft, a break-off groove formed in the non-threaded shaft portion adjacent to the shoulder, and straight threads formed on the tapered shaft, said threads having a uniform minor pitch diameter and a tapered major pitch diameter, said major pitch diameter being parallel to the outer diameter of the tapered shaft.

Metal lock system and method

A glare shield whose body is a sheet of transparent glare reducing material is attached to a vehicle sun visor for use as a downward extension thereof by a clip device having opposed arms engaging the lower portion of the visor from below, one of said arms on its lower outer extremity having a transversely extending partially closed channel for receiving and frictionally engaging a hinge pin attached to said body so as to extend above the central upper marginal edge of said body and parallel thereto by which pin the body is fastened to the clip in hinged relationship and may be rotated from a downward extension of the sun visor to an out-of-the-way position folded back against the visor, and may be used as a vertical downward extension of the visor regardless of its tilt, said arms of the clip being adapted to fit all visors in common use regardless of their thickness.
