A light therapy device () comprises: at least one light source (); a control device () for controlling the operation of the light source; a boundary memory () containing boundary information defining boundaries for the distance (D) and relative angle (f) of a user's head with respect to the light source; monitoring means () for monitoring the actual distance and actual relative angle of the user's head and generating an output signal indicating the measured distance and angle. The control device has an input coupled to the memory for receiving the boundary information, and has an input coupled to the monitoring means for receiving the output signal from the monitoring means. The control device compares the output signal from the monitoring means with the boundary information, and issues a warning signal when the actual position and/or orientation of the user's head and/or eyes is/are outside said boundaries.

A method of creating a user profile for use in a brain computer interface includes performing a training exercise, measuring a user's brain signals during the training exercise, mapping specific signals of the user's brain signals to predefined mental task descriptions, and creating a user profile including the user's brain signals mapped to the mental task descriptions. The user profile so created can be used in a method of creating a brain computer interface for a user for an application. This method includes accessing a user profile including the user's brain signals mapped to mental task descriptions, accessing an application profile including a plurality of properties of the application, matching one or more mental task descriptions from the user profile to a respective property from the application profile, and creating a brain computer interface accordingly.

Relating to brain computer interfaces

The invention relates to a blood oximeter for measuring the oxygenation and at least one other parameter of flowing blood in living tissue. According to the invention, the blood oximeter comprises two lightsources () emitting light of different wavelengths into tissue, and preferably a light detector () for detecting a transmitted and/or reflected part of the light emitted into the tissue, wherein at least one of the light sources is a laser with a laser cavity emitting a laser beam, the laser being adapted to allow a part of the laser beam which is scattered by the tissue to re-enter into the laser cavity, and wherein a laser beam sensor () for measuring the light emitted from the laser is provided, the laser beam sensor (), thus, obtaining a signal which varies in accordance with the self-mixing interferometric effect between the original laser beam and the scattered laser beam. Accordingly, such a blood oximeter is provided that performs well at low perfusion and which further allows for reliable measurements.
