A baler for hay, straw, grass, and similar feed materials is provided. The baler communicates compressed material from a vertically inclined compression passage formed in between opposing conveyer belts to a central area of a baling chamber for baling. A plunger within the baling chamber can reciprocate in two directions to form bales which are tied and discharged from both ends of the baling chamber.

A baler for hay, straw, grass, and similar feed materials is provided. The baler communicates compressed material from a vertically inclined compression passage formed in-between opposing conveyer belts to a central area of a baling chamber for baling. A plunger within the baling chamber can reciprocate in two directions to form bales which are tied and discharged from both ends of the baling chamber.

A multiple port valve plate assembly for use with a vacuum drum in a labeling apparatus. The valve plate has a first stationary vacuum cavity which is supplied with one level of vacuum suitable for picking up a label segment from a cutter with limited tension. The valve plate has a second, floating cavity, which is supplied with another, higher level of vacuum suitable for firmly griping the cut label segment as an adhesive is applied to the label segment. The valve plate has a third stationary vacuum cavity for suitable for holding the label at a lower vacuum pressure while the label is being transferred to a container. The third cavity may be further divided into a label application segment with an even lower vacuum pressure. A pressure port is also provided adjacent the third cavity for facilitating release of the label from the vacuum drum as it contacts the container.

Labels or other segments or sheet material are wrapped around containers or other articles and adhered thereto by adhesive at the ends of the label. At each end pressure is applied by a vacuum drum acting on the end of the label to adhere it to the container. In between the container is caused to spin end is moved about the axis of the vacuum drum by direct contact of the drum with the container.

Labeling machine and method

A labeling machine for labeling a plurality of containers is disclosed. The labeling machine includes a loading mechanism that sequentially receives containers and discharges containers in a spaced relationship. A star wheel has a plurality of receptacles disposed about the periphery of the star wheel, and is rotatable around an axis of rotation. The star wheel sequentially receives containers from the loading mechanism. The receptacles are pivotally secured to the star wheel for limited radial and pivotal movement. The receptacles have a leading end and a trailing end relative to the direction of rotation of the star wheel. A label dispenser including a label holder is disposed adjacent the periphery of the star wheel. The label has a decorated side facing the dispenser and an adherent side facing the star wheel. Each container is fed by the loading mechanism to one of the receptacles that grips the container as it is rotated around the star wheel until it reaches a pick-up point where the container contacts the adherent side of the label causing the label to adhere to the container. The leading end and trailing end of the receptacle alternately extend radially and retract radially to adjust for changes in a contoured surface of the container relative to the axis of rotation of the star wheel as the star wheel rotates the container past the label dispenser.

Labeling machine with radial motion turret

A machine and method for handling a plurality of articles, and a feed apparatus for transporting the article between a first station and a second station. The machine generally includes a conveyor which supplies a stream articles to an infeed station and a feed apparatus for indexing the articles. The feed apparatus includes at least one pocket shaped to at least partially receive one of the articles for transport the article from the first station to the second station and a guide section configured to separate the first one of the articles from the second one of the articles for movement of the first one of the articles into the pocket, to control movement of the second one of the articles during separation of the first one of the articles from the second one of the articles, and to move the second one of the articles into the pocket upon further rotation of the feed apparatus. The method includes the steps of moving a plurality of articles to the first station in a substantially continuous stream and rotating the feed wheel to separate adjacent articles and individually move the articles from the infeed station to the exit station.
