A system can have an x-ray source that generates a series of individual x-ray pulses for multi-energy imaging. A first x-ray pulse can have a first energy level and a subsequent second x-ray pulse in the series can have a second energy level different from the first energy level. An x-ray imager can receive the x-rays from the x-ray source and can detect the received x-rays for image generation. A generator interface box (GIB) controls the x-ray source to provide the series of individual x-ray pulses and synchronizes detection by the x-ray imager with generation of the individual x-ray pulses. The GIB can control x-ray pulse generation and synchronization to optimize image generation while minimizing unnecessary x-ray irradiation.

Systems, methods, and devices for multi-energy x-ray imaging

An imaging device includes: a scintillator layer; and an array of photodiode elements; wherein the scintillator layer is configured to receive radiation that has passed through the array of photodiode elements. An imaging device includes: a scintillator layer having a plurality of scintillator elements configured to convert radiation into photons; and an array of photodiode elements configured to receive photons from the scintillator layer, and generate electrical signals in response to the received photons; wherein at least two of the scintillator elements are separated by an air gap. An imaging device includes: a first scintillator layer having a plurality of scintillator elements arranged in a first plane; and a second scintillator layer having a plurality of scintillator elements arranged in a second plane; wherein the first scintillator layer and the second scintillator layer are arranged next to each other and form a non-zero angle relative to each other.

A medical device for treating a skin of a patient includes: a radiation source configured to provide radiation; a collimator coupled to the radiation source; and an optical device for viewing a target area on the skin when a distal end of the medical device is covering the skin. A method of treating a skin of a patient includes: providing a treatment device having a distal end, a radiation source, and a collimator, wherein the distal end is configured for placement over the skin of the patient so that the skin of the patient is covered by the distal end of the treatment device; and providing an image of a target on the skin when the distal end of the treatment device is covering the skin of the patient.

Systems and methods for treating a skin condition using radiation

A system operable for detecting radiation to scan an object includes scintillators that have respective lengths that are greater than their respective widths and an imager that has a planar array of pixels. The scintillators are coupled to the imager with their respective longitudinal axes parallel to each other. An incoming radiation beam that has passed through the object enters the scintillators through respective surfaces of the scintillators that are transverse to the longitudinal axes, and is converted by the scintillators into light that is received by respective subsets of the planar array of pixels.

The plan CT is described to generate dual energy (DRR) that stimulates the treatment time radiographs in order to prospectively evaluate the angles in which issues for the template matching algorithm are present, and thus the visibility of the tumor. The present invention uses template matching to quantify the 'trackability' of the target from different angles or directions. The peak-to-side lobe ratio is used to measure trackability. The results of this process influence treatment planning. For example, based on the outcome, either less or no dose is planned for the angles in which the location of the templates cannot be verified and thus, the tumor.

A marker system includes: a first marker; and a second marker; wherein the first marker and the second marker are configured to emit light from one or more light sources coupled to the first marker and the second marker; and wherein the first marker and the second marker are configured to emit the light for detection by a camera. A method performed using a marker system includes: generating light using one or more light sources; emitting the light at a plurality of markers that are coupled to the light sources; and detecting the light emitted from the plurality of markers using a camera; wherein the act of detecting comprises using one or more filters to reduce ambient light to a level that corresponds with a noise level of the camera while allowing light emitted from the markers to be imaged by the camera.

In some examples, a method to reduce heel effect distortion in dual energy x-ray images includes receiving flood field images generated by x-rays at different energy levels and generating one or more normalize images based on the flood field images. The method may also include applying the one or more normalize images to one or more x-ray images and combining the x-ray images to generate a dual energy x-ray image with reduced heel effect distortion.

Reducing heel effect in dual energy x-ray images

Embodiments include an X-ray cathode filament, filament system, process to manufacture the filament and process to use the filament, where the filament includes a planar substrate, such as of tungsten, having a top surface coated with a coating of carburized tungsten (e.g., WC) and thoria (ThO). A first electron beam is emitted from the coating through a thermionic effect at a first temperature, such as when the filament is heated to between 1700 and 1900 degrees Celsius by running an electrical current through the filament. At this temperature, a second electron beam may be caused by (1) a reaction that includes creating thorium (Th) in the coating, and (2) the thorium diffusing to uncoated surfaces of the substrate from which the second electron beam is emitted. The filament may also have slots forming a zipper shape, forming a square switchback shape, or forming a rectangular labyrinth shape to reduce the current required to heat the filament.

An apparatus and method comprising a cathode structure which can be a cylindrical filament coiled in a helix or which can be constructed of a ribbon or other suitable shape. The cathode structure can be heated by passage of an electrical current, or by other means such as bombardment with energetic electrons. Selected portions of the surface of the cathode structure have an altered property with respect to the non-selected portions of the surface. In one embodiment, the altered property is a curvature. In another embodiment, the altered property is a work function. By altering the property of the selected portions of the surface, the electron beam intensity is increased, and the width is decreased.
