The invention, in part, includes methods and compounds useful to prepare and functional class XIV myosin. Functional class XIV myosin prepared using methods of the invention may be useful to screen for and identify compounds that inhibit and treat parasitic infections and contamination.

Methods and compositions for expressing functional class XIV myosin

The present invention provides novel assay systems and methods for monitoring cell invasion by protozoal parasites. The present invention further provides methods of using these assays systems to identify compounds that treat or prevent protozoal infection. The present invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions that have anit-protozoal activity and methods of treating infections.

Identification of anti-protozoal agents

The invention provides polypeptide fragments derived from TgAMA-1, nucleic acids that encode the polypeptide fragments, and TgAMA-binding polypeptides such as antibodies. Methods for using the polypeptide and nucleic acid molecules to produce vaccines are also provided. In addition the invention provides methods involving use of the polypeptides, nucleic acids, and binding polypeptides, such as antibodies, for the prevention and treatment of Toxoplasmosis.
