A multi-domain cooling assembly configured to be coupled with one or more heat sources includes a body having an outer surface and at least one cooling chamber disposed inside the body. The at least one cooling chamber extends in at least two orthogonal dimensions and includes a working fluid to extract thermal energy from the one or more heat sources. The assembly includes a cooling channel disposed within the body and fluidly coupled with a passageway that carries cooling fluid into and out of the cooling channel. At least a portion of the cooling fluid is a liquid phase, a gas phase, or a liquid-gas mix phase. The cooling channel is fluidly separate from the at least one cooling chamber. The cooling channel is thermally coupled with the at least one cooling chamber. The at least one cooling chamber transfers thermal energy from the working fluid to the cooling fluid.

Additively manufactured cooling assemblies for thermal and/or mechanical systems, and methods for manufacturing the assemblies

Embodiments of the present disclosure include an inductor including at least one inductor coil, the at least one inductor coil including a plurality of outer longitudinal portions aligned around an outer periphery of the inductor, and a plurality of inner longitudinal portions aligned around an interior of the inductor. The plurality of outer longitudinal portions and the plurality of inner longitudinal portions collectively form two width-wise sides of the inductor and two length-wise sides of the inductor. The two width-wise sides and the two lengthwise sides define a substantially rectangular prism shape. The two width-wise sides and the two lengthwise sides define a hollow inductor core.

At least one thermal module in fluidic communication with the one or more electronic components. The thermal module including a hydraulic motor operable to rotate a motor output shaft. The module further including a fan coupled to the motor output shaft, at least one heat exchanger in fluidic communication with the fan to provide passage therethrough of an air stream in response to rotational movement of the fan, and a conduit carrying a pressurized liquid stream through the hydraulic motor and each of the at least one heat exchanger. The pressurized liquid stream causing the motor output shaft to rotate and wherein heat in one of the air stream or the pressurized liquid stream is passed through each of the at least one heat exchanger and rejected into the other of the air stream or the pressurized liquid stream. A thermal management system including the at least one thermal module is disclosed.

Liquid driven thermal module and thermal management system

A MMIC power amplifier circuit assembly comprised of a SiC substrate having a plurality of microchannels formed therein, where a diamond layer is provided within each of the microchannels. A plurality of GaN HEMT devices are provided on the substrate where each HEMT device is positioned directly opposite to a microchannel. A silicon manifold is coupled to the substrate and includes a plurality of micro-machined channels formed therein that include a jet impingement channel positioned directly adjacent each microchannel, a return channel directly positioned adjacent to each microchannel, a supply channel supplying a cooling fluid to the impingement channels and a return channel collecting heated cooling fluid from the supply channels so that an impingement jet is directed on to the diamond layer for removing heat generated by the HEMT devices.

Apparatuses useable in an offshore drilling installation close to the seabed for controlling well influx within a wellbore are provided. An apparatus includes a centralizer and flow constrictor assembly, a sensor and a controller. The centralizer and flow constrictor assembly are configured to centralize a drill string within a drill riser and regulate a return mud flow. The sensor is located close to the centralizer and flow constrictor assembly and configured to acquire values of at least one parameter related to the return mud flow. The controller is coupled to the centralizer and flow constrictor assembly and the sensor. The controller is configured to control the centralizer and flow constrictor assembly to achieve a value of a control parameter close to a predetermined value, based on the values acquired by the sensor.

Seabed well influx control system

In one embodiment, a gasification system component, such as a quench unit or scrubber may retain of pool of a cooling fluid for cooling another fluid. The gasification system component includes a flow damping mechanism designed to dampen flow of the cooling fluid, the other fluid, or both, within the gasification system component. The flow damping mechanism may be disposed in an inner chamber formed between a dip tube and a draft tube or disposed in an outer chamber formed between the walls of the gasification system component and the draft tube. The flow damping mechanism also may be disposed between the inner chamber and the outer chamber.

An integrated circuit device including a die with a substrate with a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface is provided. The die includes at least one circuit element positioned on the first surface. Formed on the second surface, is a wetting feature that includes an array of spaced-apart nanoscale structures and/or an array of spaced-apart microscale structures. The wetting feature also includes a wettability coating applied to at least a portion of the second surface. The integrated circuit device includes a spacer coupled to the die adjacent to the second surface. In addition, an injector plate is coupled to the spacer. The injector plate includes at least one microjet and at least one exit hole defined through the injector plate. The at least one exit hole is positioned adjacent to the at least one microjet.

Electronic device cooling with microjet impingement and method of assembly

A system includes an input and a thermal data processing module. The input receives a first oil temperature of an engine oil when an engine is turned on. The thermal data processing module estimates a first heat transfer from a piston of the engine to the engine oil. The thermal data processing module estimates a second heat transfer from the engine oil to an engine block of the engine. The thermal data processing module determines a second oil temperature of the engine oil based on the first oil temperature and the first and second heat transfers.

Physics-based oil temperature model

A method of estimating temperature in an engine including estimating metal temperatures at each of a plurality of nodes and estimating a coolant temperature. The method further includes detecting a measured coolant temperature and determining a gain based on a difference between the estimated coolant temperature and the measured coolant temperature. The method adjusts the metal temperatures at each of the plurality of nodes based on the gain. The method estimates the metal temperatures of engine components without temperature sensors.

Method for designing an engine component temperature estimator

A cooling system has a diverter valve to selectively control the flow of coolant through an internal combustion engine having a cylinder block with a cooling jacket and a cylinder head mounted on the block with a cooling jacket. A controller, responsive to the temperature of the block and the head, controls the diverter valve and a water pump to provide adequate coolant flow through the head and the block as needed to maintain optimal operating temperatures. After the engine is shut off, the controller continues to operate the water pump and a cooling fan to continue to cool the engine for a period of time.
